"So, when do we leave? I'm ready to go whenever you are." We hadn't even gotten all of the supplies ready yet, but I was really ancy.

Keary laughed. "I was originally thinking we should go tomorrow, but it seems that you are already ready enough for however long it takes us to find that ring. We will leave when the sun is just below the horizon. That will be in about four hours."

Just then, one of the spies, Yoric, burst in. "I'm really sorry for the intrusion, but the king and his daughter, along with several guards, are headed this way. I think they are just riding, but they are headed directly this way."

Keary snarled. "Of course. Now we have to deal with them. And quickly. Fay, can I count on you to help me dispose of them?"

I grinned mischievously at Keary. "Of course. It would be my privilege." I turned to the scout and asked quickly, "Which direction are they coming from?"

"From the southern side of the camp. They somehow got around the camp and are headed back towards the castle from the southern side," Yoric said, still a little out of breath.

I checked my belt to make sure that both of my knives were in place, then sprinted to the southern side. Keary grabbed his knife and began running after me.

"I can't hear them yet. Get two or three of your best warriors and hide on either side of that path," I ordered, pointing to a path that curved to the left at a forty degree angle.

Keary ordered his four toughest warriors to split in two and hide on either side of the path, making sure that they couldn't be seen.

Keary and I then stood twenty feet away from the entrance of the path and waited for the royalty and guards to come through.

Just minutes after Keary's men had gotten into position, the party came leisurely down the path. The guards called a halt upon seeing us standing there.

"Go into the clearing, Gavin. I want to see what they are up to," the king ordered.

"Of course, your highness," the guard replied. Gavin started the group forward until they were in the clearing, facing Keary and me.

"Why are you here?" the king demanded us to give an answer.

Before Keary could reply, I mocked, "We are here, oh majestic one, to live. Is that against the law?"

The king frowned at me. "Well, why don't you live in a village instead?"

I glanced at Keary, who was smirking. I turned my attention back to the king and his party. "Are you going to make us move our camp?" I goaded, trying to make a valid reason to kill them, not that I really needed one.

The king looked at me. "I will. I will give you until tomorrow to pack up your camp and leave. You will live in a village just like every other citizen."

I flicked my eyes beyond the party, where Keary's men, who had moved out of their hiding spots, and were now advancing from behind.

Ooh, this just got a little interesting. :)
