Curses! It was that young soldier from the palace! He had obviously come to rescue the princess.
I blocked the strike he aimed at Fay, and delivered a slash of my own. He clearly wasn't expecting my attack, and to be honest, I wasn't expecting his either. But I had advantages of experience and strength and the fight was in my favor.
The young soldier looked about ready to give up, but he shot a glance over to where Adira was lying unconscious and his attacks immediately showed renewed vigor. I was doing my best to defend and I would have succeeded. But as I aimed a slice to his chest he parried my knife to the side, leaving me wide open with the momentum of the swing.
I was just getting my blade back to where I could get another chance at killing him, when I suddenly felt his sword cut into my shoulder. My one remaining eye widened ever so slightly in anger that he should draw first blood.
I immediately responded with a hard slash at the soldier. He looked surprised at the ferocity of my attack and began retreating. It was then that Fay finally decided to do something.
She withdrew her knives from their sheathes and disarmed the young soldier. She looked ready to kill him, when a shout rang out. Fay hesitated for a second, and I took the opportunity to knock her weapons from her hands.
We all stood there for a moment, regaining our composure. I looked over to where the princess had regained consciousness and was sitting up. It was her yell that had startled Fay out of killing the soldier. Adira got up from the ground and leaned against the rocky wall of the cave for a second with her hand to her head before staggering over to where the young soldier was standing.
"You'll have to kill me before you can kill him." Her deep green eyes shone with defiance.
I was confused for a moment before the realization dawned on me. She liked him. I felt the need to indulge in an evil sounding chuckle. Why, I might even go so far as to say that she loved him. Ah, this was good. No, this was excellent.
"You like this young soldier, do you?" I said.
The princess looked me straight in the eye, "I love him. And if you do anything to him..." The threat in her eyes was clear.
I began walking towards them, "Then you'll tell me where the ring is?"
She looked grieved, "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Hmm, maybe you don't love him as much as you thought." I said, and with that I motioned for Fay to take hold of Adira's arms, and I plunged my knife into the young soldier's shoulder.
Well, shoot. They're both in the hands of unscrupulous people. Will Theo be okay? Will Adira tell Keary and Fay where the ring is? Find out next time on: The Captured Princess O.o
