I crept through the halls, avoiding the soldiers who were walking around the castle, and now I was hiding just across the hallway from the empty prison where I suspected the ring was hidden. I had to move quickly because someone was bound to find the soldier I had killed. I had tried to hide him as best I could, but there was blood on the rug, and I couldn’t do anything about that.

I glanced in both directions, making sure nobody would see me cross the hallway. Thankfully there was no one, so I quickly ran across before trying the door. Locked. Now I was sure the ring was hidden in this room. No one just locks an empty prison that isn’t being used.

I glanced around again, making sure there was no one in sight. Seeing no one, I pulled out my knife and frowned, then just cut the handle off, taking the handle with me. I opened the door and slipped in, shutting the door behind me. Much to my dismay, it didn’t stay shut, seeing as I had cut the lock as well. I looked around for something heavy, but the only thing that could come close was a wooden chair. That’s going to have to do. I sheathed my knife, and pulled the chair over to the door, and pushed it against the broken door to make it look like the door was shut.

I turned my back to the door, and started walking forward, further into the prison. I took five steps forward when I heard the chair being scooted. I whirled around, and silently drew my knives, ready to pounce upon whoever it was.

The door opened fully, and to my surprise, Keary was standing there. He quickly came in and shut the door behind him, propping the chair against it.

“What happened to the princess and the soldier? Why aren’t you there?” I hissed, even though I knew the answer.

Keary raised his eyebrows. “There were guards coming towards the cave, so I tied the two together and left, and now I’m here to help find ring.”

I frowned. “Fine, but we need to hurry.”

I turned away and started searching the room. My mind kept turning over the scene in the cave where Keary seemed very reluctant to go through on the mission he started. It didn’t make sense. The only reasons I could think of were not what I thought were typical of Keary. First, that Keary was either becoming nervous or scared. Second was that he was getting soft. Both solutions were not good either way.

Aight, an update sooner than usual for ya'll :) ^.^
