I smirked and grabbed Adira, holding my knife to her throat. Finally Keary was doing something to hurt someone. And by that I mean that he was making the young man pay for his foolishness. But Keary did not kill him.

The young man cried out in pain, and Keary pulled the knife out, making the soldier grit his teeth to keep from making any more noise. Probably to show off for the love of his life. He sank to his knees, clutching the wound.

I cocked my head, and waited to see what Keary was going to do next. He did not disappoint. Okay, maybe a little, but not much.

Keary glared at the princess. "Where is the ring?!" he roared in frustration.

"I don't know what you're talking about!" the princess insisted desperately, and Keary swung a backhanded slap to the younger man's face. It connected and knocked the soldier backwards onto the ground.

Doubt started to creep across my mind. Maybe she doesn't know. Maybe the king was smart enough to not share it's secret with anyone, and if no one knew it was there, there would be no chance of it falling into someone else's hands.

Unfortunately, the young man hit his head on the stone floor and went unconscious.

"Tie her up," Keary snapped at me.

I narrowed my eyes, but didn't say anything because I was just as frustrated as he was.

I roughly tied the young girl's hands. She struggled the whole time, but I managed to wrap it tightly.

"I'm going outside for awhile," I told Keary. Without waiting for a response, I headed out, making sure to stay into the ravines. It was dark, so I didn't go far.

Suddenly, a thought came to my mind. I hurried back inside and over to Keary.

"Hey, Keary, do you think the king would use the ring to get his daughter back?" I asked, a little concerned.

Keary shrugged, wrapping a length of bandage over the cut on his shoulder. "He might not so that no one knows that he has it." He tightened the knot. "On the other hand, she is his only heir so he might use it to get her back. I'm on the verge of asking you to do the honors of extracting the information from her, and quickly," He finished, rubbing his chin. He must have calmed down considerably.

"What if she really doesn't know? I mean, the king might not have told anyone about it, and no one would know except for the people who helped him hide it." I let the thought hang in the air.

Keary caught on to what I was thinking. "And the soldier might have helped him hide it?"

I nodded. "Exactly. It's at least worth a try, because obviously she doesn't know," I said, pointing to the princess.

"You're right, it is. This is taking too long. But why would the king share his plans with a simple soldier?" He waved a hand in the air, "Never mind. Do what you want. Just keep them alive."

I grinned at him. "It would be my pleasure."

Oh dear... this is drear... Lol Happy Easter, everyone! And remember: Jesus is the reason for the season! (oh wait, wrong holiday... eh, it still works. ;))
