"We should get going. I assume we are taking the princess with us." I said flatly.
"Of course. We really have no option now," Keary replied. "You hold on to the girl, and I'll make sure she doesn't escape if she gets loose from you again."
"Try to escape again, your highness, and you will wish that you hadn't tried," I hissed, grabbing Adira's shoulder and touching my knife to the girl's back. "There is no escape for you."
Adira held her head high. "My father will kill you before you are able to take me out of the castle. Besides, Theo, my guard, is probably conscious by now and has already notified everyone that you have me. So you will be the one wishing that you hadn't come in here."
I cocked my head. "Are you trying to threaten me? I don't see that you have the upper hand right now. Besides. No one will hurt me or my friend when there is a chance of me killing you."
I pushed Adira forward and started walking behind her, keeping my arm firmly holding onto her shoulder and knife to her back. The princess said nothing, but kept walking, head still held high. It was about time that girl stopped talking.
"We should go through the front gate of the castle," I said, walking towards the front entrance.
"Why don't we go back through the way we came?" Keary asked, confused.
"For one, they will have guards there waiting for us. And not just three or four, but more likely nine or ten. With nine or ten guards, that makes that hallway rather crowded. The guards will line the walls for us to pass through, then attack quickly and probably get a sword under my knife. After that, we would get captured, brought to the king, and executed. Number two, I want to see that stupid king feel totally helpless." I grinned. "That would be so satisfying."
Keary grinned back. "It would."
When Keary and I, along with the princess, emerged from the castle, the king, with forty or so guards, were standing in the courtyard, swords drawn.
I halted and just looked at them, a smug look playing at the corners of my mouth. I pulled Adira closer and slipped my knife to her throat. "Well, well, well. Look who decided to come to the rescue. A father and his guards, who, by the way, are all helpless."
"Let her go," the king commanded, although I could see worry creep across.
I cocked my head. "Let me think about that for a minute." I pretended to think for a couple of seconds. "No. The way I see it, we have the upper hand, which, obviously, puts you at a huge disadvantage."
"Stop playing around, Fay. We need to get out of here," Keary murmured.
I sighed. I really wanted to rub it in some more, but I saw the wisdom in leaving soon. "You're right," I acknowledged. I turned to the king and his army. "We are going to leave, and if you or any of your men either attack us or try to follow us, she dies."
Yikes! intensity intensifies, eh? Vote if you enjoyed! If you didn't enjoy, well, don't vote. :)
