I watched as Adira forgot all sanity and raced over to the girl and her father.

"Adira!" I yelled, but she didn't listen so I was forced to run after her.

I pushed ahead and put my sword against Fay's knives, trying to drive her back so Adira could help her father.

Fay scowled at me, obviously not happy at seeing me alive, most likely. And to be honest, I was a little surprised to see myself alive too. After everything I had been put through for Adira, it didn't seem possible that she and I had survived.

My sword clanged against the girl's as we swung at each other relentlessly. She tried to push me back on Adira, who was kneeling over her father, but I side stepped out of the way and she was forced to follow.

Doing my best, I led her away from Adira. "Adira!" I said between strikes with my sword, "Call the guards!"

I knew I wouldn't be able to hold back Fay for long in my weakened state. At this moment, the only thing keeping me from collapsing was the adrenaline that raced through my veins.

Fay swung a particularly hard blow at me, causing me to stumble back and barely stop it from striking me across the chest. She grinned with glee and I knew she realized I was weakening.

"You're no match for me, boy," she taunted, pressing more weight against her knife which was locked against my sword.

I didn't give her the satisfaction of responding, knowing it wouldn't do any good. Instead, I placed my whole focus on pushing her back.

And I was rewarded by our swords disconnecting and Fay stepping back a pace to catch her breath. I did that as well, but kept my eyes on her warily.

Suddenly, her pause was done and she dropped her knives, reaching into her pocket.

I hesitated, wondering what she was doing. And when she withdrew a small ring, I was really confused.

Fay looked at me triumphantly, "I don't think I'll be needing that knife anymore." Then she stuck the ring on her finger and raised her hand straight towards me.
