Summer Love

chapter 6

***right after chapel

The last song is sung and we are told we can leave. I get up from sitting with Ethan and his cabin and look for cabin. I can see them from a far but knowing them it wouldn't matter if I went to catch up with them or not. They probably forgot about me again. I walk right beside Ethan while my brother and the rest of the cabin goes ahead. All of a sudden, I feel an arm wrap around my shoulders. I look to Ethan and realize its not his arm. He actually looks quite pissed off. Jealous maybe? I look to my other side and see Camden. Right beside Camden I see Maddox and the other Tamarack boys.

Back story. Two year ago my brother was in the Pine cabin just like this year. He had an awesome counselor who watched out for Wyatt and me. Also in that cabin were a group of boys that were all Wyatt's friends. I also talked to them a lot that year because I thought they were pretty cool. I made it my goal to remember all of their names. Anyways now two years later all of those boys except for Wyatt and an annoying boy named Tom are in the Tamarack cabin.

"What's up Camden, Maddox and company?"

"We just wanted to say hi and that we missed you last year." said Liam, another boy in the group.

"I'm sorry guys my family and I went on vacation last July so my brother and I went in August." I respond.

"Okay, well, you have to promise to hang with us this week, okay?" asked Maddox.

I smile. "Of course guys. I wouldn't not hang out with you guys, you guys are my camp family."

I went to each one and hugged them all. For Maddox and Camden I kissed them on the cheek because they were always my favourite and I think of them as brothers. They walk ahead to catch up with their counselors. I look up at Ethan and notice that he is frowning. 

"What's wrong Quantum?" He looks down at me and sighs.

"You don't like them do you Riley?"

"What do you mean? I love the boys a lot. I've known them for three years now."

" Especially Camden and Maddox," he said, "You seem to love them."

Finally I caught on to what he was complaining about. I started to laugh really hard. I started to walk slow so that way it was just me and him.

"Ethan, really? I love you. I told you this morning that I love you. Why would you think that I forgot about that and want to date one of the boys in Tamarack? I love you Ethan. Those boys are just like brothers to me." I turn to him and bring his head close to mine. I kiss his lips slowly. I pull back before anyone would see and latch my arm around his.

"Okay, Riley. I am just scared that we just started dating. We shouldn't really be dating so we have to be secretive so I worry that you will think are relationship is to hard and you want something easier. I love Riley. I really really love you."

We walk to catch up with the rest. 

"Riley? Sit with my cabin today. There is enough room for you and your cabin doesn't seem to remember that you are in the cabin so I am sure that won't mind."

I look at him and smile. "Okay." I kiss his cheek and start running. He chases after to me. I am a really slow runner so he caught up to me really quickly. He grabbed me by the waist and skinned me around. I screamed for him to put me down but instead he put me on his back. For the rest of the way to the lodge I was on his back.

Once we got to the lodge he put me down. We walk inside looking for the Pine table. We find two empty chairs around the table sitting right next to each other. I put my bag full of stuff on one chair while he puts his napsack in the other one. I walk into the girls washroom and wash my hands. After pushing through the girls to exit the bathroom I walk over to the Pine table and wait for the boys to come out of the boys washroom. I see my brother and Ethan walk out talking to each other. My brother sees me standing at their table and he looks confused. He comes overs to me ready to ask his question.

"I'm sitting with you guys," I start, "I don't want to sit with my table, they always forget about me and I find it easier to just sit with a cabin who actually knows I exist."

He nods and goes outside to find his friends. I walk out with Ethan and we sit at a picnic bench. 

"Ethan? What's one thing you would love to see happen this summer?" I ask.

"Honestly, for us to stay together throughout the summer even though I have to work here."

"What see we going to do when I leave at the end of the week. You can't use your phone to text me, we both live all the way in Hamilton which is three hours away. What are we going to do?"

He looks at me. "We will figure something out. I get next week off so we can hang then. I also get the last week of August off. I am not sure what to do after that." 

"The last week of August has my birthday in it. August 30." 

He smiles and nods. I rest my head on his shoulder and keep talking to him about random stuff. Finally the leader calls us to breakfast. We go in and start eating. The other boys don't care that I am sitting there. They just kind of talk to me about my life outside of camp. All of sudden I feel a hand grab mine from under the table. I look noticing that it's Ethan. I look at his face and he is  in a deep conversation with my brother about soccer. I nudge his arm a bit, and he looks at me with a smile on his face. I smile and look down with a blush on my face. I keep eating and think about all the fun I am going to have this week.
