28: he's yours, have fun

"Mom, I'll be fine." I laughed as my mom asked me for the umpteenth time whether or not I was sure I wanted to go, and she smiled at me.

"Okay, we'll miss you," she told me and I smiled at her.

"I'll only be gone for a week," I told her and kissed her on the cheek. "Have fun with Amie." I winked at her and she rolled her eyes playfully. "Bye, Dad. I'll make sure to call you guys whenever I can."

"Okay, sweetie, we love you." Dad kissed me on the head and I wrapped my arms around him. "Don't have too much fun without us."

"Oh, I definitely will. Sorry for your luck," I joked and he laughed. I gave my mom a hug as well and turned toward Amie and Luke. Dustin, who had made an incredible impression, was standing off behind Luke, looking around at the house with crossed arms. I hadn't said anything to him yet, and for some reason I was nervous about talking to him.

Amie and Luke were having a serious conversation in whispers, and I tried my best to listen in, but I couldn't hear anything but an occasional 's'.

"I'm gonna go introduce myself to Dustin. I might as well," I told my parents and they both nodded in approval. I walked over hesitantly and once he noticed me, he smiled.

"Hey, how's it going?"

"Uh, it's going... fine." I laughed nervously and looked back over at everyone else, feeling incredibly awkward. I had no clue why I felt so strange and I even felt bad for feeling so weird and nervous talking to him; he hadn't done anything. "I'm Lana, but you probably know that."

"Yeah, I do." He laughed quietly and I turned toward him. "You okay?"

"Yeah, just a little anxious, I guess. For the flight and everything," I lied and he nodded, as if he understood.

"Yeah, me too," Dustin told me. "I've been friends with Luke for awhile and going to Australia with him has been something we've been planning forever. He used to try and convince me we were gonna run away and fly to Australia."

"Why would he wanna do that?" I asked, furrowing my eyebrows.

"It took him a really long time to get settled in, he missed Australia so bad," Dustin told me and I cooed softly, thinking that was cute for some reason. "I just can't wait to meet Calum. Let the best of the best friends win, you know?" I found myself laughing at his obvious joke and he smiled.

"He has other friends, doesn't he?"

"Uh, yeah, he does. There's Ashton and Michael, and I'm sure he has others that I'm forgetting," Dustin trailed off and I nodded as I recognized both of those names. "I'm sure he's got some female friends too, so don't worry."

"Okay, Lana, you ready?" I looked over at Luke and nodded quickly. "C'mon, Dustin." I walked over to Amie as Luke walked over our way, and he gave me a look before I walked by him, but I didn't think much of it.

"Hey, have fun," Amie said, smiling at me.

"What's going on with you guys?" I asked Amie, my voice coming to a whisper.

"Don't worry about it. Just go, okay?"

"Amie..." I trailed off as I noticed mom and dad coming closer to us.

"He's yours," Amie whispered into my ear and as I pulled away from her my eyebrows furrowed. "Have fun."

"Okay, Lana, you'll want to get there kind of early," Dad said, patting me on the back. My mouth hung open as I continued to stare at Amie and she eventually smiled at me. Dad basically pushed me out the door and I finally started to walk on my own.
