24: a three day fling with lana walter? sign me up

ready?

Sawyer slowly pulled away from me and my eyes slowly opened. His eyes were wide and his mouth hung open, which made me giggle.

"I didn't think you would—"

"Neither did I," I told him, looking down at my hands that had awkwardly clasped together. "I'm sorry—"

"You're really good at that," Sawyer told me awkwardly and I laughed again, thinking he was cute when he was shaken up.

"Thanks, you're not so bad yourself." I looked at him and he stared at me. "I shouldn't have done that... it just felt right."

"Well, I'm not complaining in the slightest," Sawyer joked and I smiled. "Does that mean you regret it?"

"No, no—regret is the wrong word. I just... I don't know what I meant by doing it," I told him after a long sigh. "Sawyer, can I ask you for a favor?"

"Yeah, of course, anything."

"Could I use your phone?"

. . .

"Hey, Luke," I said awkwardly as I looked around. I was standing against a tree as far away from Sawyer as I could get without being near anyone else.

"Hey," I heard his deep voice. It sounded like he had just woken up and I was a little confused. "What's up?"

"I just... uh—" I closed my eyes and brought my hand up to my forehead. "Just wanted to see how things were with you and Amie."

"Oh... they're fine, I guess."

"So, the Australia thing?"

"Yeah, the Australia thing... what about it?"

"Maybe... maybe I could go with you guys? I've always wanted to go somewhere outside of the country and if I told my parents that, they'd probably be thrilled and—"

"I don't know, Lana..."

"You don't want me to go?" I asked Luke, biting my lip nervously. "It's fine if you don't, I don't care, uh... I just thought maybe—"

"Yeah, seriously, Lana. I have no idea what Amie would like you to make her in paper crafts," Luke fake laughed into the phone and that's when I knew someone had walked into the room. "Yeah, Lana, I should go... Amie just walked in and your secret isn't so secret. Maybe make her something in a different craft department? She'll never know! See ya soon, kid." I hung up the phone and let my arm fall as I laid my head against the tree I was leaning on. I sighed and made my way back to Sawyer, apologizing to him as I got back to the snack shack.

"Sorry, I just—"

"You're fine," he told me, taking his phone from my hands as I handed it to him. "We should probably get this done."

"Yeah... you're right."

. . .

"So, you kissed Sawyer?" Ruby asked me as we stood outside of our cabin, once again waiting for all the girls to come back from dinner and the showers. I nodded and sighed hopelessly.

"Yeah," I told her, squishing my face with my hands as I felt myself become stressed.

"Luke who, am I right?"

"No, you're very wrong. The second after we kissed I asked Sawyer for his phone and called him." Ruby groaned and covered her face in frustration.

"Lana, I'm sure Luke's a real catch, but honest to god... maybe it's better you two don't get together. I mean, look at the odds. Also, maybe it's a sign that Will kissed you and that you decided to kiss Sawyer. Someone really wants you to get your mind off Luke and maybe you should just let it happen."
