19: you sure you don't want that hickey?

The next couple of days seemed to last for merely a couple of seconds. I was overwhelmed with packing and buying essentials for camp, so I hadn't talked to Luke much. But he had started texting me throughout the day while he was anywhere but near me.

Remember how I said I wasn't into using my phone all the time? That's changed. Thanks, Luke Hemmings.

"Mom, come on! I'm going to be late!" I sighed and looked down at my phone to check the time. I had about ten minutes to get down to the school that all the kids met at, and the school was at least twenty minutes away.

All of a sudden, I heard someone start down the stairs. As I looked up, I saw Luke and immediately my frown turned itself upside down. I grinned widely at him and the ends of his lips curled into a small smile.

"You sure you don't want that hickey?" I slapped Luke's arm and he yelped.

"Shh, would you?" He leaned forward and kissed me on the head, something I thought was very risky considering we were right out in the open.

"Have a good time, okay? But not too good of time, alright?" I nodded slowly and laughed quietly as I did. "Don't forget about me."

"I won't." I smiled up at him and wanted to kiss him so badly in the moment. But as I heard someone else starting down the stairs, I knew that wouldn't be happening.

"I'm sorry, Lana, I'm a little frazzled," Mom said as she passed Luke and ran to the kitchen. I watched her as she left and quickly stepped on my tiptoes to reach Luke's lips. He leaned down just as I had leaned up and we met in the middle, our lips connecting.

We pulled away quickly, in fear of my mom running back in, but the kiss had lasted long enough.

"I'll see you in a few days, okay?" Luke asked and I nodded. "Seriously, that offer is still on the table."

"Luke, fuck off," I whispered and he laughed breathily, placing his hand on my shoulder. "It's just a few days, it'll be fine."

"Okay," he told me.

"Okay, let's go! Meryl is going to crucify you if you're not there to register kids. Say goodbye to Luke and tell him he'll only be alone with Amie for a couple of days. I'll be waiting in the car." Mom rushed in the room and quickly left after speaking, causing me to laugh.

"Okay, well, I guess I gotta go."

"Okay."

"I brought my phone, just in case I can get any signal, but don't get your hopes up." Luke suddenly pulled me into a hug and, as I wrapped my arms around him, I thought to myself about how this was our first actual hug.

I had never experienced something like hugging Luke. His chest was firm and his arms were strong; they made you feel complete as they wrapped around you. And as his scent of campfire and just the smallest hint of lavender engulfed you, it made you feel as if you could faint, which was a nice feeling in this case. I knew then that I didn't want to leave and I didn't think I would be able to make myself go.

"You better go," he told me, his voice sounding just as shaken as mine probably would be after the hug. I nodded and pulled away from him sadly. "No boys."
