3: i guess that could work
"Luke, this is Simon—my ex-boyfriend."
"Oh, that's who you are," Luke said, staring at Simon. His voice became cold and not at all inviting.
"Yeah... so you're Amie's guy? How's she?" Simon asked, sticking his hands in the pockets of his jacket; one that I had bought for him, I realized.
"Amie's fine, she's great—I'm lucky to have her. The Walter sisters are beautiful, aren't they?" Luke asked and my cheeks crimsoned as he did. Simon wasn't much for complimenting, so when he shrugged, I wasn't surprised.
"Kind of a touchy subject for me," Simon tried to joke, but was unsuccessful. "Uh, Lana, my mom needs to talk to your mom... I was going to text you, but it's probably better we saw each other in public. My mom never got her new number, so I was just going to get you to give it to me..."
"I'll just tell my mom to call her." Simon nodded and smiled at me. "Well, I should probably go, we have stuff to do."
"Uh, yeah. It was nice seeing you, Lana."
"Was it?" I asked him, crossing my arms. Simon's eyebrows furrowed and he sighed.
"Lana, I'm just trying to make this easier—"
"I get that, really, but don't... okay? Don't act like the conversations we had don't exist, because they do. I know how you feel about me and, sadly, you know how I feel about you."
"Lana, I'm trying to be polite and you're clearly trying to make a scene. I don't know why that surprises me, though," Simon growled, causing me to completely shut my mouth—I guess it hadn't been the best idea to let out any raw emotion in the middle of the produce aisle.
"Okay, look here—"
"Luke, let's go. My parents actually need us to get stuff done. Goodbye, Simon," I said, pulling Luke along by his arm.
"Lana, I could've said something to him," Luke huffed as he continued to walk with me. I shook my head and looked around for what I needed.
"You don't need to say anything to him, ever. Don't waste your breath, it's not worth it. Now, my mom hates his mom, for good reason. So don't tell her about the calling thing, okay?" Luke nodded and sighed once we stopped walking.
"I hate Simon," Luke said.
"He used to be a good guy... I don't know what happened," I told Luke, shrugging. Memories of laughter and butterflies flashed before my eyes, and it made me feel sick to my stomach. "But that doesn't matter. It's not worth hating him... he probably finds ways to gloat about being hated."
"What did Amie think of him?" Luke asked, looking down at me. I shrugged and grabbed a carton of eggs from the shelf.
"She only met him once, she didn't really care about anything when she first met him. Amie used to be really annoying," I told Luke, shaking my head as I laughed. "Like really annoying. She was awful. Everything she did made me want to tear my hair out. She was a brat and she hated me."
"Really?" Luke asked, overly surprised.
"When did you get the pleasure of meeting her?"
"A few months ago... she's never been hateful, at least not when I've known her." I shrugged and continued walking down the aisle as Luke followed.
"She was a troubled teen, if I'm being honest. She drove my parents nuts... I do, too, but not in the way she did. My parents are always terrified I'll end up being like her, but not even I could be like Amie. I'm capable of a lot, but not that."
