23: everyone's into lana walter
The next morning at breakfast was insanely awkward. Will sat on the opposite end of the table and it took Sawyer a good five minutes to choose who he would sit by, but he eventually sat down beside me. Breakfast seemed even longer than usual and the constant eye contact that Will and I shared was nearly unbearable.
Thankfully breakfast did come to an end, meaning Sawyer and I could leave and go to the crafts class we helped with. I really wanted to talk to Sawyer, just to see if Will had said anything to him.
Once we had sat down with our notebooks, I placed my hand on his arm and got his attention.
"Hey," he said as he looked down at me, smiling goofily.
"Hi," I said, not in nearly as good of a mood as he was. "Have you talked to Will this morning?"
"Uh, kind of," Sawyer replied as he shrugged his shoulders. He wasn't acting weirder than usual, so I was beginning to think he didn't know about Will kissing me, but I really wanted him to. I wanted to talk to him about it. "We talked really early this morning when I was woken up by a very loud and blood curdling scream." I blushed at his words and he laughed lightly. "Why do you ask?"
"Did he tell you anything about our short escapade?"
"He told me he had to walk you to the bathroom, but he stopped texting me after awhile," Sawyer said and as I stared at him for a long couple seconds, I realized that Will really hadn't told him. "Did something else happen?"
"Well, I mean, I guess you could call Will kissing me something." Sawyer immediately lost his goofy and cute smile, and I became concerned. He stared at me for a good twenty seconds with a completely blank expression before he frowned.
"Will kissed you?" I nodded, and slowly looked down at my lap. "Did you kiss back?"
"What? No!" I yelled, but quickly quieted down as the kids around me looked over at us. I hadn't meant to attract attention, but I was surprised Sawyer would ask me that. I hadn't seen Will in years and I had been talking to him again for barely two days. Why would I kiss him?
But then again, why would I tell myself I was in love with Luke—which I'm not—thirty minutes after meeting him?
"Oh..." Sawyer said, looking down at his lap as well. I stared at the side of his face and watched as some of his brown locks fell into his eyes. "So, you weren't into it?"
"Of course not! I mean, Will's cute, don't get me wrong, but I hardly even know him. Yeah, we're friends but I haven't seen him in years. It really surprised me that he did that. I just thought it was really weird. Especially after I asked him why he did it and he responded with something about doing it because I looked cute."
"You've got a weird effect on guys, what can I say? You are really cute, so it probably just got the best of him." I looked up at Sawyer and smiled at his words. "What?"
"Nothing."
"I'm just saying, Lana, it doesn't surprise me at all. You're one of the best people I've ever met, so I get why he felt the urge to kiss you. Everyone's into Lana Walter," Sawyer told me and I began to realize he almost seemed to give off the feel that it was annoying that everyone liked me.
"First off, that's not true. Not everyone is—"
"Lana, ask me if someone likes you and more than most of the time it'll be a yes."
"Well, you don't like me," I said, feeling fairly confident about that. Sawyer stared at me for a long while, and I began to feel less confident. "Sawyer?"
