Hope woke me up at 7 and we went down to breakfast. I grabbed my plate and then sat next to Alex so we could talk about Germany's defense. After we ate Hope and I went back to the room and we went through previous games of Germany's.
Hope made her notes on the tendencies of the forwards and also which way the team shot their PKs. Also Hope helped me make notes on their keeper.
Hope: her footwork is slower when there is a cross coming in.
Me: so don't put it back where it came from?
Hope: yes
Me: quick releases would be better because it takes her time to set
Hope: definitely
I finished with my notes and then went to play soccer tennis with Tobin so Hope could focus. We played until noon and then went to lunch. For lunch we had salad, chicken, and green beans. We had a couple hours to let our food settle and change before loading the bus.
We did warmups and then had walkout. Out starting lineup was Hope, Ali, Broon, JJ, Kling, Moe, Carli, Tobin, Kelley, Alex, and then me on the left. The ref blew the whistle and Germany kicked off. They had a very strong attack like expected. We held off and were able to have a couple chances but couldn't finish. Halftime came and we were tied 0-0.
In the locker room Jill told us some things to be cautious of going back in. The whistle blew and we kicked off. We had a couple more chance but Germany stayed strong. Finally, Tobin beat her defender and shot. The ball hit the post and went across the goal where Carli finished it.
Announcer: Goal for Carli Lloyd in the 63rd minute. The US lead 1-0 over Germany.
Germany kicked off again and came full force. We stayed and cleared it out. Horan came on for Carli, Engen in for JJ, and Allie in for Moe. Becky took the throw in and Kelley won it. Kelley went back to Horan who played a long ball to me. I jumped up to win the ball but the German defender came in late and on her way, down her cleat went all the way down my back. The ref blew the whistle before I even hit the ground. The defender got a yellow carded as Alex came over to me.
Alex: Baby Horse are you good?
Me: I think so, will you check my back?
There were 4 cleat marks starting at my shoulder blades and going all the down to my lower back.
Alex: your good, up you get
Alex helped me up and Tobin took the kick. The score stayed 1-0 and then final whistle blew. I went straight to Hope.
Me: good game Hope you had some amazing saves
Hope: thank you Baby Horse
We shook hands with Germany and then Dawn handed out drinks as we stretched. We went to the locker room after autographs. I changed out of my uniform and put on my pullover and pants. We loaded the bus and went to the hotel. We had dinner and then went to our rooms to shower. I went first and as soon as the water hit my back I yelped.
Me: ow!
Hope: you okay Baby Horse?
Me: uh yeah it just stings!
I showered as quickly as I could and got out. I wrapped a towel around me and walked out.
Me: will you look at my back?
Hope: damn, you have 4 marks all the way down your back, even where your sports bra was
Me: Alex said it was good on the field
Hope: yeah she lied, go get it cleaned while I shower
Me: nooo
Hope: Savannah
Me: but it stings
Hope: if I have to bring you myself you'll be sorry
Me: fine
Hope went into the bathroom and I put on Nike Pros and a t-shirt. I went down to the training room and Beck was in there.
Beck: Baby Horse do you need your ankle iced?
Me: might as well but I need the cleat marks on my back cleaned as Hope's request.
Beck: alright hop up
I laid down and pulled the back of my shirt up. Beck wrapped ice on my ankle and then started cleaning my back.
Me: ow that stings
Beck: sorry Baby Horse, I'm just putting the antibiotic on it and Sarah will have to come wrap it for you
Me: alright thank you
Beck left and Sarah came in. I had to stand up and take my shirt off so Sarah could wrap the stretch tape all the way around me. Once she finished I put my shirt on and went to my room.
Me: I hate you
Hope: what did I do
I just took my shirt off to show her
Hope: I didn't think they would wrap it my bad
Me: uh huh whatever.
We both got ready for bed and the climbed in we talked and then fell asleep around 11.
