Hope and I woke up and headed to breakfast. After we ate Tobin and I played soccer tennis until we had to change and load up. We were playing Australia in the quarterfinal. Our starting lineup was Hope, Krieger, JJ, Broon, Kling, Moe, Lloyd, Tobin, Kelley, Alex, and me.
We did warmups and walkout before taking the field. The ref blew the whistle and we kicked off. We kept the ball and had a couple chances. We won a throw in by the 18 and Tobin threw to me. I beat my defender and crossed the ball. Alex saw it and slotted it in near post.
Announcer: Goal! Alex Morgan in the 12th minute. US leads 1-0 here in Brazil.
For the most of the half we kept the ball in the attacking third. Hope only touched the ball once. At halftime we talked about what we were missing. Horan came in for Moe and then Australia kicked off.
We were able to win the ball back and attack. Kelley sent me a through ball and I had a small breakaway. The Australian defender caught my back foot tripping me outside the 18. The ref called it and Tobin came up to take the kick. Tobin curved the ball around the defense and into the near post beating the keeper.
Announcer: what a spectacular goal from Tobin Heath. Her free kick puts the US up 2-0 in the 62nd minute.
We set back up and had kick off. In the 65th minute Allie came on for Tobin and the in 85th Sonnet came in for Kling. No one scored again and then final whistle was blown. I shook hands and then went to find Kelley.
Me: Squirrel nice ball!
Kelley: nice tumble in that foul
Me: hey that actually hurt, thank you
We signed autographs and then went to the locker room. I changed and then a group of us went to the bus. Back at the hotel we showered and then watched the swimming finals. We ate dinner at 7 and then a couple of us went to get ice treatments before movie night. The movie ended around 10 and we went back to our rooms. Hope and I changed and climbed into bed.
Hope: Rio tomorrow, are you excited.
Me: yes! I might get to meet Aly and Simone
Hope: maybe
Me: plus hopefully I can hang out with athletes my own age.
Hope: what's that supposed to mean
Me: oh sorry grandma I didn't realize your first day of school is supposed to be this Monday
Hope: wow rude, but point taken. And go easy on the grandma I'm sure there's a pool around
Me: I'm sure there is, good night Hope.
Hope: good night Savannah
