Hope and I got up and went down to breakfast at 7. We ate and then Jill came in.
Jill: good morning ladies our line-up is going to be different today. Solo, Krieger, Engen, Brunn, Kling, Moe, Horan, Lloyd, Pinoe, Press, and Kelley. That is all
Jill left us and we cleared our tables. Hope and I went up to our room and she read while I watched the Equestrian. We ate lunch at 12:30 and then Tobin and I played soccer tennis.
Alex: Baby Horse Tobs, gymnastics is on and you two still have to change
Me: alright we're coming
Tobs: thanks Lex
Tobin and I grabbed our gear and changed before going to Allie's and Alex's room. We watched gymnastics until we had to load the bus. We got to the stadium and went into the locker room. All of us changed into our warmup gear and headed out. After warmups the girls put on their jackets as Alex, Tobin, JJ, Sonnet, Allie, Ash, and I put on pennies. The girls walked out, the anthem played, and the they took the field.
The ref blew the whistle and Columbia kicked off. We won the ball quickly and were able to make a couple chances. While trying to win the ball back Pinoe fouled a player outside of the box. The Colombian player curved the ball around the wall. Hope was able to knock it out at the last moment. We cleared the corner kick and made a couple chances.
At the 20-minute mark I warmed up and subbed Pinoe off in the 33rd minute. We fought over the ball but finally got a break away. Tobin shot but it hit off the goalie and then the cross bar. Press was making her run and was there to slot it in.
Announcer: Goal for the US. Christen Press with the goal in the 41st minute to put them up 1-0.
No one else scored and then we had halftime. We went back out and kicked off. Alex came in for Press at half. Moe got the ball out wide and crossed it in. Kelley and Alex missed it. I had made my run far post and shot but it hit Kelley and came back. I dribbled across the box and then shot beating the defenders and their keeper.
Announcer: Baby Horse with her first ever Olympic goal to make it 2-0 in the 59th minute.
Colombia kicked off and we fought over the ball again. Allie came in for Moe in the 65th minute. In the 90th minute the ref gave Colombia a free kick by the corner flag. The ball came in and one of our defender tried to clear but it went towards goal. Hope was able to punch it out but the Colombian forward shot again. Thankfully it went over the crossbar.
The game ended but everyone was still on edge from the kick. We shook hands and then huddled up. Jill talked and then we broke off. I signed autographs and then went into the locker room.
Alex: if I were you I would shower now and then you can come hang out in my room. Hope's pissed off more than usual
Me: alright I'll let you know
I took off my uniform and turned it in before going to shower. I came out and put my team gear on. I put my hair in a bun and went to the bus. Back at the hotel we had dinner but Hope skipped. I finished my food and then made a plate for Hope.
Me: hey Al I'm going to give this to Hope and then I'm coming to your room
Alex: alright I'll meet you up there
I went up and walked into my room. Hope was sitting on her bed looking out the window.
Me: I can tell you need space. I brought you dinner and it's still warm. I'll leave it on the desk and I will be in Alex's room if you need anything
Hope: alright thanks
I walked down to Alex's and she let me in.
Alex: how'd that go?
Me: she just needs space
Alex: understandable well let watch the end of the gymnastics we missed
Alex and I turned on the TV and got comfortable on her bed. Allie came out of the shower and joined us. We watched the girls on bars and then finish on floor. The coverage ended after the medal ceremony around 11. Alex tweeted the girls and then I got my stuff and went to leave.
Alex: hey did you tell your sister Happy Birthday?
Me: no I haven't
Alex: please do, I don't know all the circumstances but trust me you'll regret it one day if you don't
Me: alright I will
Alex: thank you, goodnight Baby Horse
Me: goodnight Al, goodnight Allie.
Allie: goodnight Baby Horse
I went back to my room and Hope was out of the shower.
Hope: thanks for giving me space
Me: of course. And look don't beat yourself up we all have bad days.
Hope: mine was horrible
Me: and you made up for it. You made the saves. So what you didn't have your defenders set or they didn't do their best
Hope: yeah I guess, congratulations on your first Olympic goal.
Me: thank you
We both turned off our lights and climbed in bed.
Me: I texted my sister Happy Birthday
Hope: of your own accord?
Me: after Alex told me too
Hope: well I guess it's still progress
Me: yeah
Hope: good, well goodnight Baby Horse
Me: good night Hopey
