~Grayson's P.O.V.~
I walk around the campus, with my discman in my hand. I can finally listen to my music on the go. 1998 is beginning to be a good year for me. I just started my junior year in college and I have my brother by my side. Nothing could possibly go wrong. I grip my starter jacket, and continue walking alongside Ethan.
College has been good to us so far. The classes are good I can't complain about the girls either. I wouldn't necessarily call myself a ladies man, but I do love the attention.
"Where are we going?" I ask.
"You'll see." He says.
We continue to walk, but I see a girl. She's cute. Cute enough for me to take a second look at her. She has curly brown hair, big brown eyes, and small round glasses. She has a jean jacket that wraps around her frame as well as her jeans do.
"Yo, E. I'll be back." I say.
I give him no time to comprehend what I'm saying, before I run over to the girl. I stop in front of her, and she notices my presence. She looks up from her book that she was glued to. She slides her glasses to the bridge of her nose, and closes the book. I smile awkwardly. I've never felt this intimidated when approaching the opposite sex.
"Can I help you?" She asks.
"If you come back to my place." I say, confidently.
"Not interested." She says.
She walks away, leaving me there astonished. I catch up to her, and stand in front of her once again.
"Maybe you don't know who I am." I say.
"Don't know. Don't care. Are we done here?" She asks.
I've never had this problem. Usually girls would pounce on me, but she's different. Way different.
"I'm Grayson Dolan. Or the man of you dreams." I say.
"If you're the man of my dreams, I'd rather wake up. Now is there something you want?" She asks.
"In fact there is. Would you be interested in coming to my dorm to watch a video(movie)?" I ask.
"What type of video?" She asks.
"Any type." I say.
"Look, I know what you're trying to do." She says.
"Is it working?" I ask.
"No, not really." She says.
"And why is that?" I ask, folding my arms.
"You're just not my type." She says.
This is one of the first time I've ever heard this.
"How come?" I ask.
"I'm a sapiosexual." She says.
"You like monkeys?" I ask.
"Not homosapien, sapiosexual." She says.
"And that means?" I ask.
"I not sexually attracted or aroused by faces. I'm attracted to brains over beauty." She says.
"Well, what makes you think I'm not smart?" I ask.
Her body shifts from her left leg to her right. She puts her glasses on top of her head, and rest her right hand on her hip.
"Just by looking at you I can tell that you probably got into college on an athletic scholarship, you barely go to class, you're a frat boy, you party like it's a habit, and you expect women to fall all over you. Am I right?" She asks.
I never noticed until now, but she described me perfectly.
"Maybe." I say, stubbornly.
She smiles. Her teeth are so pretty.
"Well, let me prove you wrong." I say.
"What are you insinuating?" She says.
"I'm saying, if I prove to you that I'm not the cliché jock then you have to let me take you out to dinner." I say.
"You don't even know my name." She says.
"True, but you can enlighten me." I say.
"Using big boy words already." She says.
"What can I say? I wanna win." I say.
"August." She says.
"What?" I ask.
"My name. It's August." She says.
" Isn't that a guy's name?"
"Aren't you being cliche?" She asks, sarcastically.
"Sorry." I say.
"You're cool." She says.
"So how am I gonna keep in touch with you?" I ask.
"I can page you or somethin- You're smooth." She says.
"I get that a lot." I say.
She takes her pager out of her pocket, and asks for my number.
"500." I say.
"What does it mean?" She asks.
"When I page you "500", it means I'm thinking of you." I say.
"Slick like butter my man." She smiles.
"Well, I'll leave you to your book." I say.
"Finally." She says.
I laugh.
"Bye, August."
