~Grayson's P.O.V.~
The clock counts down. There's so little time. The score is tied. This next move could determine it all. I look to Ethan, who's next to me. His helmet is covering his face, but I can still make out what move he's telling me to play.
I have to take the ball and run as if my life depends on it,which it does because my athletic career is the most important thing to me.
I can hear the crowd roaring with the scream of a thousand lions. I look up, to see the jumbo screen on people in the crowd. There are a group of girls with signs, that spell out Ethan and I's name. I smile, but one person in particular catches my eye.
August.
I don't know why but every time I see her, my mind goes blank. Nothing else in the world matters. I continue to look at her, but my body get slammed to the ground. I hear the buzzer go off, and the opposing team's crowd goes wild.
They won.
We lost, and it's all my fault.
We shake hands with the other team, and walk off of the field. I walk into the locker room and sit down on the bench.
"DOLAN!" I hear my coach yell.
I lift my head, to look at him.
"What the hell was that?" He asks.
"I don't know." I say, vaguely.
"You just threw the game! We only have one more chance to make it to the championships and you start this shit!" He yells.
"I'm sorry." I say.
"You better be. Goddammit! What the hell is wrong with you?" He asks.
I was about to answer, but Ethan interrupts.
"I think he's in love, coach." He says.
I can feel my face tighten in denial.
"Well, you can love all you want off the field, but when game time comes you better get your head in the game." He says.(hsm?)
He walks away, and I head to the showers.
****
I walk around the campus, on the prowl. Except this time only Ethan is prowling. I want August now. I have to get her. We walk to a nearby McDonald's. The smell of hamburgers and freshly cooked fries fill my nose. We stand in line, but I can't help but notice a big curly mess that I can see out of the corner of my eye.
I turn my head, to see what it is. I see August. She has a book in her hands, a different one this time.
"I'll be back." I tell Ethan.
He looks at me, then at August and smiles.
I shake my head and walk towards her. I sit down in front of her, and she looks up from her book. I expected her to give me a grimacing glare, but she smiles.
"Hi, Grayson." She says.
"Hello." I say.
"What brings you here?" She says.
"Food, you know." I say.
"Sorry about the game yesterday." She says.
"It's not your fault. I just got a little distracted." I say.
"I came to support you." She says.
"I know." I say.
"How?" She asks.
"Don't worry about it." I say.
"Um..okay. How's your studying going?"
"Not that good, but I'm working on it. I like your questions though. Very exquisite conundrum." I say.
"Wow. I'm impressed." She says.
"Thank you." I say, patting myself on the back.
"Well I have to go." She says, getting up.
"Okay." I say.
"You can come by my dorm if you'd like." She says.
"What room?" I ask.
"Eisenhower Hall. Room 116." She says.
"Goodbye,my curly haired aphrodisiac." I say, with confidence.
She laughs at me.
"Um..Grayson. Do you know what that word means?" She asks.
"Some that you like, right?" I ask.
"Not quite. It means a sexual desire or attraction to a thing, place, or food." She says.
I face palm.
"I'm trying so hard to impress you." I say.
"It was working, but now not quite." She says.
"I'll show you, August." I say.
"I'm looking forward to it." She says.
I stand there and smile at her. She gathers her things and leaves, but not without kissing me on the cheek. Her lips are so soft.
"Your lips are so soft." I say.
"Thank you." She says.
And with that she walks away.
Why does the one girl I actually like have to be a sapiosexual?
