----
I wake up to the sound of the birds chirping. I would say that they're outside my windows, but I'm outside already. I know it might be strange to sleep outside, but I like it. It calms me.
The way it's so peaceful. During the day I listen to the cars and all the chitter chatter that can be heard. At night I listen to nothing. I hear nothing.
Things are really calm at night. I live in a suburb, so what else would happen? More than you'd probably think. No one here is sincere. They're only looking out for themselves, and their family fortune.
Sadly, money is the only thing people care about around here. But this is why I sleep outside on my roof. There's nothing like this type of view.
I get up from the lawn chair, that I sleep on. I would sleep in a bed, but I can't. My parents think it's irregular for me to sleep outside. They said it was either sleep on a bed inside or sleep on a lawn chair outside. My choice was pretty obvious.
They say that my attitude is bad, and if I ever want to invest in the family fortune in the future, that I'll have to get my act together. Little do they know, that I want nothing to do with this family after I graduate high school.
Everyone thinks that money is the root of all evil. They're wrong. It's the people who have the money that are the evil ones. But not all of them, but where I'm from otherwise could be said.
I continue to lay back and enjoy the view, until I feel a sharp sting on my right ear. I look up to see our maid, Jackie.
"Get up. You're gonna be late for school." She says, dragging me to my room by my ear.
"Dammit, Jackie." I say.
"Don't you use that language with me. Now hurry up. You have to be at school by 8:30." She says.
I rub my ear, as she lets go of it. Sadly, Jackie is the only mother figure I've ever had. My real mother doesn't care about me or my siblings. All she cares about is the family fortune.
Nothing more.
Nothing less.
Don't even get me started on my father. He's exactly the same way. I've never been close with either of them. Either I'm doing too much, or I'm not doing enough.
I go to my room, and sit on my bed. The bed that I haven't slept in since I was a sophomore. I'm a senior now, and graduation is only a few months away.
I point the clicker at the tube. I prefer expensive news.
I know Jackie just told me about school, but I couldn't care less about it. School isn't really a big priority to me. I mean, yea you could get a scholarship, but what happens after that.
You don't need anything that you learn in school because you'll forget it all, and school isn't even about learning anymore. It's about passing.
I get off of my bed, and walk to my closet and pick out an outfit for another day of torture. Something simple. A plain t-shirt, adidas pants, and vans, with the addition of a hoodie.
I grab my book bag, and swing one of the straps over my shoulders. I walk down stairs, to see Jackie and Ethan.
"Took you long enough, Grayson." Ethan says.
I flash him the finger, but Jackie sees me. She slaps my head, and goes back to cooking our breakfast. I sit at the table and she brings me a plate with pancakes, bacon, eggs, and açai. I eat me food and I wonder why Jackie isn't a chef, instead of a maid.
She came over to America, to follow her dreams of being a singer on broadway, but I guess reality didn't work in her favor.
"You two finish up. Education is calling." She says.
"Well, hang the fuck up." Ethan says.
"Hey, watch your mouth. Get going." Jackie says.
She kisses us both on our cheeks and sends us off. We walk out of the front door, and get into Ethan's BMW. He pulls out of our driveway, and drives off.

Summerton Academy.
A private high school for the rich and snobby. I hate this school, but I can't complain about the infamous parties. Every week there's always some type of rave. Everyone in the school is invited, to one of these massive house parties.
I walk through the hallways, and make it to my first class of the day. Calculus. A subject that I actually like. I'm not bad at learning, I just hate school.
I need a pick me up. Something or someone that'll make me feel like I'm actually supposed to be here.
"Good morning class. I hope your weekend was good, but now it's time for some fundamental theorems. Yay!" Mr. Conley says.
He writes the equations on the board, and I get paper and a pen out of my book bag. I start to work out the equation, but there's a light knock on the door. Everyone turns their heads, and the principal along with a small girl walk in.
"Mr. Conley, sorry for interrupting your class, but you have a new student." She says.
"Oh, no problem. Take a seat young lady." He says.
She steps out of the principal's way, and takes a seat. Her seat is only three seats away from mine.
"What's your name, young lady?" Mr. Conley asks.
"Oko Okonjo." She says.
Oko.
I like it.
