Chapter Fifty-Six

Zack

"She's awake" Kat smiled walking in to the waiting room.

"What?" I asked looking up "You saw her?"

"And I talked to her." Kat laughed "She's just fine. Still numb but she's okay."

"The baby?" I asked

"He's just fine too" Kat grinned "He's a small little guy, they're running tests but they seem optimistic."

"Where is she?" I demand jumping to my feet heading towards the door.

"Follow me" Kat winked.

I followed on her heels back into the maternity ward. I noticed the nursery and part of me wanted to peer in and see my son, but honestly the longing need to see Dez out weighed seeing him. There would be plenty of time to see my son, once I knew for sure that Dez was okay.

Besides I would rather see him with his mother.

"In here" Kat smiled pushing open a door. I was a little rough but I pushed Kat aside and rushed in.

Dez was sitting up in her bed, she still looked pale but thank god her eyes were open and her normal smile was on her face.

"Zack" She breathed but didn't move.

"Oh god Desiree" I began crying practically running to her "Thank fucking god you're okay baby. I was so scared."

"I was too for a minute" She whispered "But I'm okay. Did you see our baby?"

"No" I admitted "I had to see if you're okay. God Dez I couldn't imagine this world without you."

"Awe Zack" She smiled "I'm not going anywhere anytime soon. I promise."

"Good, because as far as I'm concerned you're going to out live me" I whispered kissing her cheek. "Don't you ever scare me like that again. Twice was enough"

"I will try not to" Dez laughed a little "I heard our baby"

"You heard him?" I questioned

"Yeah" She smiled "When I woke up he was screaming his head off"

"They're going to bring him back in once they've checked him over really good" Kat explained smiling. "I think Matt is at the nursery right now, watching"

"Oh good" Dez smiled "He loves babies doesn't he?"

"A little" Kat laughed pushing her hair out of her face.

When Kat did, the ring sitting on her left hand caught the light, reminding me of what I wanted to do as soon as Dez woke up.

"Dez" I whispered grabbing her hand

"Yes?" She smiled at me turning her head to look in my eyes

"You know I love you right?" I questioned

"I sure hope so" She grinned winking

"I can't live with out you Desiree" I whispered a tear falling down my cheek.

"Zack" Dez whispered looking slightly embarrassed "You won't have to"

"I'm serious Dez" I said urgently "I almost lost you, more than once now. I can't do that ever again. Marry me"

"What?" Dez gasped looking at me like I was a mad man.

"Marry me." I smiled "If you love me, and promise that I won't ever have to live with out you marry me."
