Chapter 27 ~ We Continue Our Descent Down This Damn Hill.

Lucas’s POV

Magna and Spencer came up behind me.

“Why did you follow me?” I sigh.

“The wall was boring.” Spencer smiles. I can’t help but shake my head and chuckle a bit, I go to take a pack off of him but he shakes his head and I lower my hand.

“So,” Magna steps forward to look down the hill at another deserted town. “Do we keep going?” She looks back at me and I see an excited and daring spark in her eye. Magna may be old, but she’s still a child. I smile whilst turning my head to Spencer as well.

“We keep going.” Magna and Spencer smile at each other and we set off down the hill, well, Spencer rolls down the hill. Magna’s laughing and shaking her head behind us while I’m running after him.

Then I trip over an invisible rock and soon Spencer’s not the only one rolling. Magna’s laughs gets louder as I catch up to Spencer, who looks up at me and smiles.

“Alright man, I’ll race ya?” He winks and rolls further down the hill, but I’m faster.

Mika’s POV

So Juliette works here. That’s happened.

What else has happened?

Um. Nothing!

I am so bored here right now.

I wonder what Lucas’s doing….               

And Spencer, I still feel bad for leaving him. I shouldn’t have left him with Sparrow when I knew what she was and what she would do. Why did I do it? Why did I leave him for her taking? I don’t know, I just. I guess I was just scared of losing him, so I left him instead of him leaving me. I hate loss, especially when it’s on me.

Lucas’s POV

We finally made it to the bottom of the hill; I won! Then as we stood up we saw that Magna was still halfway up the hill, so we had to climb back up and help her with the packs. It was fun rolling with Spence; we haven’t had a good time like that since his sister left. I guess I knew Juliette would want to leave us one day, she was growing tired of us, but I didn’t think she would leave the way she did and just disappear.

“You know what I just remembered Lucas?” Magna says as we continue our descent down this damn hill.

“What?” I ask, carrying both Magna’s packs and mine.

“You didn’t bring me its head.” Huh?

“Whose head?” I ask, my head tilting toward her, showing that I’m listening but just focusing my eyes on the road.

“The animal, the one that attacked you both?” Oh Sparrow. I remember, when I was running to the house Magna yelled at me to give her Sparrow’s head.

“You came in, you could’ve taken its head whenever you were there.” I state.

“I know, I was only joking son, I wasn’t going to take its head. I did take its hair; apparently it has healing and magical properties.

Magical properties. Right. I shake my head and chuckle a bit as we come to the bottom of the hill.  

Spencer’s POV

Whoa.

We’ve just reached the bottom of the hill and what I see in front of me is just, wow.

Juliette and I and our family lived in Paris before the Robo came, my mum was French but my dad was American so we visited America quite a few times but we never went to Washington D.C. Dad always said that he wished America and Paris was just a five minute drive away from each other so he could have his family from America close to his family in Paris. Now as I look at the wrecked streets of D.C I say to him in my head, look Dad, your wish has come true.

I snap out of my trance when I see Lucas holding a hand up and motioning for us to crouch behind an old checkpoint block. I look at Lucas like ‘what is it?’ and he shakes his head and pokes his head around the corner. When he comes back he huddles close to Magna and I.

“It’s only a patrol, so we can get past them. We just have to keep quiet and…” But he’s cut off by Magna jumping up and running out toward the patrol. Lucas and I look at each other with wide eyes before getting up and racing after her.

“Magna!” Lucas yells as we watch the Robo watch her getting closer, but Magna doesn’t flinch. She keeps running and when she finally reaches the closest Robo she lets out a barbaric noise before attacking the Robo so forcefully it loses balance for a few seconds. That’s when the Robo take the in the ridiculous happenings in front of them and go for Magna who has hoisted herself onto the Robo’s shoulders and is now bashing in its head. I let myself have a moment to chuckle at Magna’s sudden attack before helping Lucas with the other Robo.

When all our Robo are down, Lucas gets up from his kneeling position and tucks his gun into the back of his trousers. I brush off my jeans and look toward Magna who’s leaning against a tree with a massive smile on her face.

“I don’t know about you boys but I found that extremely thrilling.” She breathes, catching her breath. Then Lucas explodes at her.

“WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?! You could’ve been killed! We could’ve been killed! And also, now we will have other Robo looking for us! You’ve just thrown away all possibility of us making it through the next few weeks in peace!” Lucas throws up his hands in exasperation as he turns his back to her. I look at Magna’s shocked face looking at the floor and I can’t stop myself from giggling.

Magna’s face lights up as she looks at me and Lucas sighs.

“Did you just giggle Spencer?” He asks, not looking at me, his hands in his hair. I giggle again and soon I can’t stop myself from having an all out laughing attack. Then Magna joins in and we’re both cracking up, holding our stomachs.

“Do you know how you two look? We just had a fight with a Robo patrol and now you’re laughing about it?” Lucas shakes his head and chuckles. I look up at him as he chuckles again. He shakes his head.

“No, I’m not gonna laugh at this, this is serious and bad. Not something to laugh at.” Then he looks at Magna and says cheekily.

“It was funny how you were bashing that Robo’s head in.” And sure enough all three of us are laughing like kookaburras. Well, that’s how Magna laughs anyway.
