Is that a car? Oh My God, it’s a car!

“A Car!” I squeal and run over to it.

“What’s up with her and my car?” I hear Lucas ask Spencer.

“She hates horses, every time she gets on Saviour she needs me to hold her.” Spencer explains, sounding quite boastful at the end. I can tell Lucas is grinning as he replies,

“Well, I’ll have to drive her won’t I?” Lucas walks over to me, as I’m running my hands over the car’s body.

“Can I give you a ride?” Lucas asks smiling at me.

“Is that even a question?” I reply as I look up at him on the other side of the car and smile back. Lucas’ smile softens as he holds out the door for me. I walk over to the opened door and get in. Lucas closes the door once I’m in and walks to the driver’s side. I watch him as he walks and gets in the car; he is very good looking.

“Ready?” Lucas asks reaching for the keys.

“The real question is, are you Lucas?” I inch back in my seat and watch his hands as he turns the key in the ignition. Are you flirting with him Mika? No. It sounded like it. I’ll have to keep an eye on that.

“What do you have to keep an eye on?” Lucas asks as he drives. Man, what is it with me involuntarily talking out loud?

“Nothing, just thinking out loud.” I shift in my seat and watch the wrecked, depressing streets of what used to be Paris go past. How did we come to this? Why did we come to this? Well, that’s easy, some evil robots from another planet decided that they wanted to control more than one planet, and we happened to be the closest!

Lucas and I spend the majority of the drive in silence, apart from a few attempts at small talk. We’re close to the destination when Lucas kills the engine.

“Don’t want them hearing the car.” He says as he takes the keys out of the ignition.

“Of course.” I say as I get out the car and grab my backpack. I check my gun, making sure there’s enough ammo, then I twirl my dagger in my hand a few times and look up to find Lucas holding out a sword. He’s cleaning it with the bottom of his t-shirt, which lifts up a bit to show his skin. Stop staring at him Mika, stop now! I put my gun in the back of my jeans and my dagger in my boot.

“Let’s go.” I say as I move out, Lucas following me.

Juliette and Spencer arrive on Saviour at the allocated spot.

“What took you two so long?” Lucas loudly whispers.

“Juliette was putting on make up.” Spencer says loudly.

“Shhh!” I turn around to see if anything’s heard us, or Spencer.

“Make up? On a raid?” Lucas whispers at Juliette, who shrugs and turns to Saviour. Lucas sighs and joins me at the gap in the wall.

“See any activity?” He’s so close I can feel his breath on my neck, I move over a bit and tell him I don’t see anything. I walk back to Spencer and help him remember how to load a gun. Once again, I feel Lucas’ eyes on me; it makes me uncomfortable. Once Spencer’s gun is loaded and ready, I look up, find that Lucas is looking out the gap and I walk over to him.

“Everyone’s ready Lucas.” I whisper. Lucas nods and continues to look out the gap. I wait for his response. I wait a while. Screw him; I’m going.

“Mika wait.” Lucas grabs my arm.

“Lucas, we have to go now.” I say impatiently.

“I know; I’m just not used to this.” He looks down, still holding my arm.

“Used to what? Killing Robo or doing it as group because as far as I can tell, you haven’t had much practice in either.” I shake off his arm and step back, he looks up at me and I catch a flicker of hurt in his eyes. We don’t have time for this, and I tell him that.

“Lucas, we need to go now, we don’t have time for this, you being emotional. We need to get out there and kill them.” I look into his eyes as I say this to him. He stands up taller and looks behind me. I turn around momentarily and see that Spencer and Juliette are listening to us, or trying to, Lucas and I have been whispering the whole time. I turn back to him and take a step forward,

“Lucas?” I lightly touch his arm, “Let’s go.” I drop my hand and begin walking out from behind the wall.

~

I take the lead with Juliette, Spencer then Lucas behind me. I have moved my dagger into my sleeve so I can pull it out quicker, if I need to. We advance and I reach the edge of the wall of which the Robo are behind. I wait for everyone before I look at Lucas and give the go ahead. When I look at Lucas he’s looking better than he was before, I nod at him and he nod’s back. Juliette and Spencer see our exchange and prepare. Wait, Spencer’s raising his head; what is he doing? He’s opening his mouth; his nose scrunches up. Uh oh! Spencer!

“AhhChoo!” Spencer sneezes. We all freeze for a few seconds. Juliette shakes her head annoyed at Spencer, Lucas put his head in his hands, and I turn around to peek around the wall and see if they heard us. One Robo has his head in our direction. Damn! Please leave it alone, please leave it alone, please, just go back to whatever you’re doing, please, please.

The Robo suddenly snaps his head and looks straight at me. We stare at each other or a few seconds, the Robo looks confused, then the wind picks up and my hair is swept into the Robo’s sight. He instantly grabs for his gun, but I’m quicker.  By the time the rest of the Robo realise we’re here; I’m on them all with my gun. Lucas runs out after me and covers my back. I see Spencer and Juliette still behind the wall. Then suddenly Juliette’s screaming and fighting against a Robo, they’ve got her and Spencer. Lucas runs to them, but before I can yell at him a Robo stunner hits him in the back. He falls.

Juliette’s still screaming and everything’s in slow motion. I run for Lucas, shooting at everything in front of and behind me. I’m still running towards Lucas when I focus on Juliette and Spencer and kill the Robos holding them; this is the second time I’ve had to save Juliette. I yell at her to get Spencer and go back to the house. I kill more Robo as I reach Lucas; I stand above him as I shoot down the rest of the Robo, dodging their stunner rays. When they’re all dead I pick up Lucas and half drag half carry him back to the car, away from the slaughter sight. Better them then us.

I shove him in the passenger seat and get in the drivers seat. I haven’t drove in years; desperate times call for desperate measures. I stamp my foot on the pedal and speed away.
