Chapter 6 ~ The Talking Never Ends In This House

“What?” I jump up from my chair.

“I’m glad to see you’re so excited Mika, it means a lot to me.” Lucas leans back in his chair with his cup of coffee.

“He can’t stay here!” I insist.

“Why not? He owns this place.” Spencer sounds confused and disappointed, like I was just going to jump up and down in glee and we’ll become one big family. Sorry Spencer.

“Yeah, if we gonna kick out anyone, it should be you.” Juliette adds from her chair next to Lucas’.

“Ok, we’re not going to kick anyone out,” Lucas’ voice get’s firmer, but still a hint of amusement lurks there. “Mika, I won’t do anything nasty, I will be on my best behaviour and if in anyway you feel uncomfortable around me, I can go live next door.”

I flop back down in my chair and nod.  Spencer smiles and starts talking to Lucas, who tells stories of how he went to Africa and saw all the people enslaved by the Robo. Apparently the Queen has now set up a military camp there.

“Is the Queen in Africa?” I ask intrigued. How did this guy get to Africa and not get caught.

“No, no one knows where she is apart from her closest Robo commandos.”

Ok, now’s a good time to explain how the Robo’s work. They’ve got their soldiers and their machines and then there’s the leaders then there’s one leader above all the leaders, It’s like our old military, where you had the soldiers, the generals then the President, except the President in this case is a Queen. The Queen, she was the first Robo ever made, they say she was made in the image of the last king of Imka’s daughter – Imka’s the planet from which the Robo’s came – she’s supposed to be the one who ends all of Imka’s misery. That’s not going to happen because Imka doesn’t exist anymore. We think.

“What else did you find out?” Spencer asks excitedly. Now that I think of it, Spencer’s like the baby of the group, and he acts it too.

“I didn’t find out much, I wasn’t there for long.” Lucas says calmly.

“But you were away for ages.” There it is. I knew he was hiding something.

“It takes a long time to get to Africa, and besides, I wanted to be here for you.” Lucas quickly dodges the bullet. When it’s my bullet, there won’t be time for him to dodge. But I’m not going to fire now. He just here last night. I look at my watch and the time reminds me of something. I stand up and head for the stairs.

“Where are you going Mika?” Lucas asks, he’s stood up and is walking towards me.

“I’m going to get my backpack?” I shrug and start towards the stairs.

“Why?” I hear Spencer ask, I also hear Lucas’ footsteps following me. Leave me alone already. I stop and turn around.

“We’re still on for that raid aren’t we?” I see Lucas’ face scrunch up in confusion.

“Raid?”

“Yeah, we had planned to go now actually.” I say as I turn around and start to climb again but someone’s hand on my arm stops me and makes me turn around, right into Lucas’ face.

“What raid?” He asks, all serious. I shake off his hand and lean against the banister. I sense another talk, the talking never ends in this house.

“Juliette, Spencer and I go out on raid’s.” I sum up.

“Yeah, we kill Robo.” Spencer says from the bottom of the stairs. I cringe and quickly put a smile on my face, hoping Lucas didn’t see my cringe. He did.

“You kill Robo?” His face turns to a look of little anger and disappointment. I look down the stairs and see Juliette hitting Spencer on the head. He shrinks away, rubbing the spot where she hit him. Lucas also turns to them; he focuses his gaze on Juliette.

“You kill ROBO?” I can’t tell what he’s feeling, but anger is definitely one of them.

“It’s no big deal.” Juliette says quickly. I start to turn and go up the stairs but Lucas grabs me again.

“You’re all gonna come downstairs and explain to me everything.” He growls, not taking his furious eyes off me, it’s enough to make a grown man pee his pants. But I’m not a grown man, I match his look and he begins to drag me downstairs. I yank my arm outta his lock and march past him into the living room. Everyone sits down again and we start to explain, telling Lucas about that time when I killed all the Robo at the warehouse, along with all the other times we went out on raids and killed Robo as a team and the training.

“Mika taught us heaps about short hand fighting and all the different guns.” Spencer adds.

“Sound’s like Mika’s very knowledgeable when it comes to fighting and weaponry.  “ Lucas says curiously, I can feel his questioning eyes on me but I refuse to meet them. I cross my arms.

“She is. She’s a very quick and ruthless fighter. You should’ve seen her in that warehouse, and all the other times. Spencer and I basically watched her for the majority of the time.” Juliette adds, sitting forward in her chair. What happened to her ‘growing to like me’?

“Mika’s also very pretty, don’t you think so Lucas.” This comment from Spencer makes me start choking on my tea.

“You haven’t seen her in her underwear Spencer, she’s beautiful.” Lucas says, and I don’t need to look at him to know he’s got a massive smug look on his face. This is where I leave.

“Thanks for all your compliments, but I’m not that great. Now if we’re not going on the raid then you’ll excuse me.” I start to the stairs.

“Mika.” Lucas calls out to me. This is the second time he’s stopped me from getting to the top of the stairs.

“Grab your backpack, we’re going on that raid.” I smile and go up to my room where my gun, dagger and backpack await.
