How to be 'Unpopular'

The next morning, I comb my hair as usual and wear my short pink shorts and a white tank top with the words, 'EAT ME' on them. The only thing different today is that I'm excited to go to school. I'm not wearing makeup today, and honestly, I feel a weight being lifted off of my shoulders. I started to wear makeup when I turned twelve, so I've never missed a day without it for about four years.

I slip some black heels on and walk down the stairs. "Robert, I'm ready!" I call for the driver. "You're up early, Miss Rose." He smiles and I nod, "I am! I'm not wearing any makeup, did you notice? Can you see?" I ask excitedly and his laughter booms down the halls, "yes I can, Miss Rose, and you look lovely!" He compliments and I smile giddily.

When I reach school, I'm twenty minutes earlier than usual.

Five minutes pass and I'm still one of the only students to be here.

I check my phone and three minutes have passed since I last checked and I let out a frustrated moan.

"Hey Em." A familiar voice calls me, sending uninvited shivers down my spine. I turn around with a fake smile plastered on my face. "Hi Jayden!" I say overly happily so it's obvious I'm exaggerating it.

"Woah. Wow, I mean, you look... Different." He says and stares at my face. It takes all of my will power not to roll my eyes. "You obviously don't. Still the same stuck up dick I first met." I reply and he sighs.

"Look, Emmerson, I'm sorry I cheated. Candace is just a bitch and she wouldn't stop leaving me alone." He explains and I laugh so sarcastically it sounds like a pig dying. -or that crazy receptionist from Monsters Inc.

-Whichever your mind prefers to see.

"So what? You're just going to blame it all on Candace?" I say and he shakes his head, "No. I'm not blaming her, but it was her fault." He tells me and I almost explode with rainbow happiness and fall into his arms like the Cinderella I am-

You believed that?

Neither did I.

I stand up in front of him and slap him hard across his face, "You, Jayden McCarthy are one big fat whore-man and you and I will never go out again! Get that into your head, asshole!" I shout and walk into the school and lean against one of the lockers to wait for Hunter.

Hunter arrives in about three minutes and when he does, I wrap him in a small hug. He awkwardly stands still and looks down the hall, checking if anyone is near. "Are you okay, Em?" He asks and I node my head up and down.

No, I'm not okay. My father is a nutcase, my mother wants space from everyone. My 'friends', Carly and Sunny are bitches and used me to get popular. My ex boyfriend wants to get back with me after he cheated on me with my nemesis. My nerdy friends only let me hang with them because I owe them back their part of the deal. The only reason I have a 'boyfriend' is because I blackmailed him. Life isn't fair! Where's my brother when I need him most?! Stupid college.

"You don't seem okay." He interrupts my thoughts and pulls my arms off of him and looks at me. "You're not wearing makeup." He notices and offers a ghost of a smile. I nod and swallow back my tears.

"Sorry." I apologise and take a step back to give him some space. Hunter looks at me curiously but I shake my head, "Okay! So how do we sign up for the Science club?" I ask and Hunter frowns at me.

"I'll ask Oliva. Apparently she takes the class too." He informs me and. I nod, "cool."

"So this is Plan C?" I ask and he nods. "What's Plan D?" I ask and he runs a hand through his hair, nearly making me melt on the spot.

"Shoes. You're not going to wear anymore heels." He says and eyes my black high heels that I'm wearing now. I gasp, "You're not going to break them, are you? I can't afford to have you break anymore." I frown and he lifts an eyebrow at me, "I did not break your shoe."

"Aha, sure you didn't." I smirk and he laughs, "That's right, I didn't."

When I see Candace walking through the door, I lean up and wrap my arms around Hunter's neck and kiss him passionately. His lips are smooth and inviting. His tongue flicks on my bottom lip and I don't allow it in. Let's tease him.

He attempts to push is tongue through but I only make my mouth smaller every time. He lets out an aggravated moan and I smile.

"Get a room!" Candace shouts and I almost break away from the kiss to laugh in her face, but she's not worth my time. I'd rather kiss Hunter.

Instead, I pull the middle finger at her from behind Hunter's back and she gasps loudly.

"Whore!" She shouts and I pull away from the kiss, about to shout at her face and call her a fucking hypocrite but Hunter pulls me tighter to his chest and kisses me harder.

This time, he gains full access to my mouth and our tongues battle against each other in pure pleasure.

Our mouths move in sync and I melt my mouth into his and relax my body against his.

"Slow down there, or you might end up swallowing each other." A familiar voice interrupts. I turn to face the intruder. Sapphire smirks at us, "I know what you're doing. It's obvious." Sapphire tells me and I scrunch my eyebrows together, "what do you mean?"

"Oh don't play dumb, Barbie." Sapphire warns me, "You two aren't actually going out." She classifies and I gasp. How does she know?

The dark skinned, turquoise eyed beauty stares at me with a look of control in her eyes. "It's obvious. But don't worry, I won't tell anyone your little secret..." She grins evilly and for some reason, I don't believe her.

Hunter looks at me with his bright green eyes, they hold question in each pupil. "I don't know what you're talking about." Hunter questions and I nod.

She lets out a loud laugh, "Yes, yes you do."

I run my hand through my hair and Sapphire turns around to venture through the halls. "How does she know?" I whisper loudly and Hunter looks at the ground, "I don't know... I don't know." And this time, he actually doesn't have an answer.

"Is it really that obvious?" I ask and Hunter sighs, "I didn't think it was." He replies. Neither did I.

"We need to do something that will make people believe we're going out." I tell him and he nods, "but it isn't that easy, Emmerson. We've already done everything we can publicly. We need a strategy." He exclaims and I nod excitedly.

"So, what does strategy mean?" I ask.

---

"At lunch time, okay? Remember that. As soon as you sign us up for the Science club for after school, meet me at the cafe. Got it?" Hunter asks me for the third time.

"Yes! I think I understand now." I clap my hands and grin. Let the show begin! And may the odds be ever in your favor.

You thought I was a Hunger Games Fan? No, neither did I. I'd rather fan myself. No pun intended.

The classes go even slower and longer than usual but when the bell goes, I'm the first one to get up. "Miss Rose! I need to speak with you." The teacher asks and I nod, "okay."

"Your science grades are falling dear and I don't really think that you should sign up for the science club. It's for our top students and you're only in the top seventy-one percent. I'm sorry, dear." Mrs Higgins apologises and I frown. This is going to ruin Plan C! "I really will try harder, Mrs Higgins. Please, just let me try out." I beg and removes her glasses. "Promise to bring that homework back tomorrow and you've got a deal." She negotiates and I smile, "Thank you!"

After Mrs Higgins signs my name up for the science club, i run to the cafe to meet up with Hunter. He's standing by a table so I run up to him, "I'm here!" I exclaim and he nods, "I thought you were going to ditch." He grins and I return it.

"Are you ready?" He asks and I smile mischievously.
