When the cab parks, I catapult over Zero's lap and run towards the door. Without knocking, I barge in.

A chubby, african woman quickly walks around the corner with a bat in her hand. "Maria!" I shriek in delight and her eyes widen as I jump into her arms. "Emmy?" She hugs me tighter, "Where you go? You haven't had blueberry pancakes in a long time!" She proclaims and pushes my shoulders back to speculate me.

She lifts up a blue strand of my hair, "Paint?" She asks, causing me to laugh, "No Maria, it's-,"

"Hey Maria!" Jasper grins, interrupting me and pulling her into a hug. I scowl at him for ruining my conversation with my favourite parent-guardian.

"Jay-Jay!" She laughs deeply and hugs him back. When they pull away, she ruffles his hair, "You need haircut."

Jasper rolls his eyes, "I'm fine. My hair isn't long."

"Its getting longer. Yes... And what happened to Emmerson's hair? You paint it? You were always a naughty boy." She scolds and puts her hands on her hips in dissaproval. I snicker at him.

"What? No. I didn't paint her hair, Maria. She got it highlighted." He explains and she turns around to face me again, "Highlight? You mean that bright pen?" Maria clicks her fingers and I shake my head in amusement, "Not quite."

Zero walks through the door with my luggage.

"Intruder!" Maria shouts and picks the bat off the floor. In shock, Zero drops my bags onto the ground, putting his hands up in surrender. His eyes flicker to mine in helplessness as Maria points the bat at his face.

"No Maria! He's not an intruder, Zero is my boyfriend." I exclaim, pushing the bat down, angling it away from Zero's panicked face.

"Boyfriend? What happen to Hunter?" Maria asks curiously.

My heart clenches a little. I find that I can't really say anything; its like my throat is restricted by shattered pieces of my heart, to put it in a cliché phrase. My mind wonders back to when Hunter first came here.

-- flashback --

Five minutes later, Hunter is forcing me to take my makeup off now. "Please Hunter! No! Not the face!" He's holding the white face towel in his hand from the bathroom, trying to rid of my foundation from my face. "Stay still, Emmerson," Hunter tells me as I struggle to get my wrists free from above my head. Right now I'm lying on my bed, nearly crying my eyes out. "Hunter! Stop!" I shout angrily and he laughs and shoves the white material on my face, muffling my screams. "I'm going to kill you!" I shout but it end up sounding like, "Igahighhillhoo!" As he shoves the cloth over my face, collecting my shielding cream.

My door bursts open and Hunter lets go of my two wrists and hides the towel behind him. Our position is strange, I'm lying on the bed while his knees are nearly touching my head, as he sits behind me.

"Gran!" I shout gleefully when she enters the room. I sit up straight and try to Hide Hunter behind me, but, he's already been seen.

"Emmy, Darling, who is this?" She asks with a fake smile. I know that smile, it means she's unsure about him.

"This is my..." I start but don't know how to finish. "Boyfriend." Hunter smiles and Gran stares at me for a moment and them scuttles over to shake his hand, "nice to meet you. I'm Lily." She smiles and he nods, "Likewise. I'm Hunter." He greets and Gran hesitates on what to say next. "I'll ask Maria to make supper..." She says. "Are you staying for dinner, Hunter?"

Say no, say it...

"Sure!"

Fucking hell.
