When we reach the party, I kind of wish I'd chosen a prettier dress. Looking around, everyone else in fancy cocktail dresses and shit that hardly fits their bodies. I'm wearing a simple blue dress with small straps. It reaches my mid thighs and would suit an occasion at the beach, not a party.
Zara smiles at me though. She's wearing a white, strapless, short dress with her bikini beneath. Apparently it's a pool party and there's supposed to be a gig being held.
I'm not that excited.
I look around and realise Zara is taking me towards a group of people. I frown and awkwardly walk next to her. I'm usually not this awkward: I'm normally talkative and happy but around people I don't know, I feel uncomfortable and criticised. I've never felt this way before. It's probably because I'm feeling self conscious in this simple, boring dress.
Well, I think it's pretty... Others might not.
The group of people is quite unique. There's a girl with bright purple hair and a nose piercing, a boy with black, spiky hair and is wearing everything black against his pale self. There's another boy, he has a lip piercing, a brow piercing and has (obviously died) red hair. The rest of the group consists of normal people. To say I'm not intimidated, by those three described people the most, is an understatement.
"Zara!" The girl with bright purple hair smiles and engulfs her with a hug. The emo guy looks at me curiously and I cower a little and look at Zara, hoping she'd get me away from the creep. Zara pulls away from the purple haired girl and grins at me, "This is Xanthea," she points to the purple haired girl. Xanthea grimaces at me in a not-so-polite way, but I smile in return. Zara turns to the red headed dude, "This is Kaysil" He smiles at me kindly. He seemed like the mean one with all of his piercings, so it kind of surprises me that he smiles, but I return it anyway.
"And this is Zeroda" she points to the emo guy.
He doesn't greet me, though, he just glares at Zara through his black bangs, "Zero. Ze-ro." He pronounces in a harsh tone towards Zara and she just chuckles and rolls her eyes.
"Whatever. Anyway, this is Emmerson. Be nice to her." She says, sending them all of a knowing look which I can't comprehend.
"I'm just getting a drink, want one?" Zara asks and I shake my head. No thanks...
When Zara leaves, Xanthea glares at me and takes a strand of my blue-highlighted hair between her fingers. Well, this is awkward...
"Trying to act cool?" She says, tugging at my blue strand. "Um-...." I don't know what to do. Who the fuck just grabs someone's hair and twirls it and then asks if they're 'trying to act cool'.
"What do you mean?" I question softly and Xanthea laughs at me, "I see. You're going for the innocent style. Listen, girly: Back. off." She warns me and I frown in confusion. what?
"Thea, leave the poor girl alone." Kaysil pulls 'Thea' away from me. That's probably her nickname?
Anyway, Thea spins around to glare at the red head, "Fuck you Kaysil, why do you always have to get in the way!" She says angrily and struts off.
Zero is still staring at me... I look at him cautiously and his eyes avert somewhere else.
Okay?
"Sorry about her... She's just had a rough day you know?" He smiles kindly at me and I smile back, "Trust me, I'd know."
He raises an eyebrow, "Care to share?"
I chuckle, "I thought this was a party, not a therapy session!"
Kaysil shouts in laughter and I giggle with him. I turn to look at Zero and see a tiny little, midget smile at the corners of his lips.
I feel a tap on my shoulder, so I turn around and look at the person. A random guy with brown hair and brown eyes grins at me, "Want to dance?"
