~RECAP: I want to run away!~
“Emmerson, it’ll be okay.” He tells me soothingly and rubs my back.
“It wont be okay, it never has been.” I sob and hug him tighter.
He kisses me on top of my head and sighs, “Let’s take you home, princess.” He instructs and unravels my arms from around me.
My face feels sticky and warm so I must look like a wet marsh-mellow.
He smiles at me and grabs my hand, taking me outside.
I stop and pull him back, “I don’t want to go home. What if he’s there?” I ask and Hunter crunches his eyebrows together.
“Who?” He asks and I hiccup. “Max.”
“Emmerson, who’s Max?” he asks desperately. When I don’t answer he frowns, “Is he an ex-boyfriend?”
I shake my head dramatically, “No! He’s my father.” I admit and Hunter gives me a confused expression.
“Why don’t you want to go home?” He asks softly and gingerly smooths his thumb along my cheek.
“Because he’s a monster.” I shrug and Hunter sighs.
“He probably isn’t there. I’ll go with you.” He tells me and I rapidly shake my head and begin to cry again, “Please, no! I don’t want to go!” I sob and Hunter quickly raps me in a supportive hug.
“I don’t want to go, I don’t want to go,” I repeat.
“Okay. Come to my house then.” He tells me with a concerned expression. I nod my head after a short while.
There’s a strange expression on Hunter’s face and I can tell he’s a little reluctant to go to his house.
Why?
He takes my hand and we go to his car. The drive is quite silent along the way. I notice that we’re going in more of the east side; it isn’t the prettiest side, let’s just say.
I don’t confront Hunter about it though. Maybe he lives in this area? He parks the car on the side of the street and we step out.
In front of me is a small house, it has no garage and I reckon it can barely fit three or four people.
I keep my mouth shut. “This is home…” Hunter says unenthusiastically.
I don’t mind that Hunter lives in the run down part of town. It doesn’t bother me as long as I’m safe in his arms.
He guides me up the stairs and unlocks two locks; probably for security reasons (especially in this area of the province).
