I cautiously open the door to notice my mom sobbing in the lounge. I mentally sigh and gallop up the stairs without being noticed.
When I finish packing new clothes into my suitcase, I struggle the luggage down the stairs. Since my arms are a little weak, they give in and the suitcase drops with a big THUD.
"Who's there?" James questions and I frown. His voice is beginning to irritate me. "Emmerson is that you?" Carol questions, but I can hardly hear her because her throat is liquified with tears and her nose is blocked. I glumly walk down the stairs, giving them no eye contact while I pick up the suitcase and walk towards the door.
"Emmerson!" My mom squeaks, panicked. I turn nonchalantly to face her but don't say anything. "Where are you going?" She questions desperately and I roll my eyes, "Away from you." I answer firmly and open the door. Carol lets out a whimper and shuts the door again, "Please, please don't go. Please Emmerson." She begs me and my eyes soften a little bit. I hate seeing her this upset but she kind of deserves it; she knew it was coming at some point. Secrets never stay secret.
"I will be back," I assure her and her shoulders slump in relief. "But I don't know when." I explain and hurt flashes across her face. I gave her a little bit of false hope. "I just need time. This family is fucked up." I laugh humourlessly.
She frowns, "Where are you going?"
She sniffs a few times and I gulp nervously, "Goodbye Carol."
I open the door again and walk outside, shutting it after me, I turn to look at my mother's face. She looks utterly broken.
I sigh and walk a little bit down the street while I wait for Hunter. When his car zooms down the road, I sigh in relief.
Hunter stops the car, parking it and he steps out of it. He cautiously walks towards me on the pathway and wraps me in a huge hug. I want to smile but I can't. I feel emotionless. Everything that's happened has been too much for my brain to comprehend.
I'm confused.
Emotion-mixed.
Hunter pulls away from me and gives me a small smile, "it'll be okay." He assures me and I offer a ghost of a smile towards him. After Hunter puts my luggage in his trunk, he drives down the road, the opposite way from where his house is.
"Where are we going?" I ask curiously and Hunter smiles, "To your Sanctuary"
When we reach the treehouse, an immediate patch of comfort inserts itself in my body. I walk up the small ladder and enter the house with Hunter. I groan and collapse on the bed in exhaustion.
"Rough day?" He asks and I nod, "You have no idea." I begin and then realise that hunter really has no idea what is going on.
He is so understanding; he left New York with me without questioning why. He's letting me stay at his house with him without him even knowing the reason why. Is he even human?
Hunter lays on the bed next to me and we stare at each other for a while. He lifts a few strands of my blue hair and twirls it around.
"Hunter, I should probably tell you what's been going on these few days..." I inform him and he smiles comfortingly, "you don't have to."
This surprises me. Many people would die of curiosity and take any opportunity given to them. "I want you to know." I admit and he nods, telling me to go on.
After I explain all of the events about Gloria, Jasper, Max, my mom and James, I feel a massive sense of relief. Hunter is like my personal therapist. But he's not just that; he's my boyfriend- the boy I'm deeply in love with.
