"Morning," I say to Erin as she walks into the kitchen.
"Hey." She sits down at the table next to me. "I need some help," she says as she looks at me.
"What is it?"
"I need help getting Jc to talk to me."
"Alright. Hey Kian come in here," I call.
"Yeah?" He asks as he walks in and takes a seat.
"Have you talked to Jc since everything happened?" I question.
"Yeah I talked to him the day you left for Alaska."
"Ok good," I say. "We'll need to use your phone."
"Why?"
"Because he isn't talking to Erin and if I call him on my phone he'll know that I'm only calling him because of Erin," I explain.
"Oh, here," he says as he pulls his phone out of his pocket and hands it to me.
"Thanks." I take it then he disappears back into the living room.
"So who's going to talk and what are they going to say?" Erin asks.
"Well do you want to talk or do you want me to?"
"You should talk. If he hears my voice he might just hang up and not answer if we try again."
"Alright, what do you want me to say?"
"Ask him if Copeland is ok then tell him I'm sorry."
"Alrighty." I unlock Kian's phone and search his contacts for Jc. When I find it I press call. Even though this really isn't my situation my heart still races with every ring.
"Hey, what's up?" Jc says when he picks up.
"Um hi Jc, it's Annie."
"Oh hi." Disappointment fills his words. He must know why I'm calling.
"Look I know you probably don't want to hear it but Erin says she's sorry. She regrets what she did."
"I get that you're trying to be a good friend and all, but I'm not in the mood for this. Just tell Erin I'll talk to her sometime. By-"
"No wait!" I quickly cut him off before he finishes.
"What?"
"She wants to know how Copeland is doing. Is she alright?"
"Yeah she's fine."
"Ok. Well thanks for just listening to what I said instead of just hanging up."
"Sure thing. Bye." He hangs up and the line is dead. I do the same and look at Erin.
"What'd he say?" She questions.
"He said that he'd talk to you sometime."
"Well when's sometime?"
"I don't know."
"And how's Copeland?"
"He said she fine."
"Good."
"Are you going to be ok?" I ask.
"Yeah I should be fine, I just need some time to think on my own."
"Alright." She gets up and walks back upstairs. I walk into the living room and take seat next to Kian on the couch.
"Here you go," I say as I hand him his phone.
"Thanks," he slides it back in his pocket and puts his arm around me, pulling me closer.
"I feel so bad for her," I say as I lay my head on his shoulder.
"She cheated on him though," he reminds.
"I know, but he wouldn't make time for her."
"Then why didn't she talk to him about it?"
"She did," I say. "He didn't listen to her though. I get that she shouldn't have cheated on him, but all she wanted was for someone to pay attention to her."
"I don't know, all of this just seems odd," he says.
"What do you mean by odd?"
"All of this stuff just doesn't sound like things Jc would do. I mean stealing all her money and leaving her in Alaska. Not paying attention to her. Not listening to her when she tells him about how she feels."
"I know."
"I mean all my life though he's been this caring person that always puts others first, now he just seems like a complete asshole."
"Honestly, even though I don't want to, I have to agree with that," I say.
"When I talked to him the other day he fessed up to leaving her with no money, so we know she isn't lying."
"I know she wouldn't lie about something like that anyway."
"There's definitely something up with this though," Kian says.
