I only stay on the beach for about another hour because I get to hot. I wouldn't dare step into the water though, just because the air is warm doesn't mean that water is.
I go back up to my room and take a shower to rinse off all the sand and sweat off of me. My mind starts wandering again.
I really shouldn't go to this party. I came to San Diego to cool off and get a break from Kian and everyone, not to party. I came here because I want Kian to understand what it'd be like to be without me for once. A part of me feels like he'll never understand that though. He always acts like he'll always have me, that I'll never leave him no matter how far he pushes me. I can't get back together with Kian. Even if I wanted to I can't. He doesn't deserve me. I'm going to that party.
I change into a pair of white high waisted shorts with gold studs on the front of the left leg. I find a tight fitting cropped pink lace shirt and put it on. I comb my hair out and take a seat on my bed and turn the tv on.
I scroll through the channels and stop at the movie channel then wait for whatever is on next to come on. The movie starts and my heart sinks. Dirty Dancing. Shit. I turn the tv off and take a deep breath. This is going to be a lot harder than I thought.
A knock on the door shakes me from my thoughts. I sit up and walk to the door. I open it to find the guy I had met at the beach. Brian I think his name was.
"Uh hey you left these down on the beach." He hands me my sunglasses.
"Thanks." I take them. "How did you find me?" I question a bit suspicious.
"My parents own the hotel. I saw you walk back in here and I checked the records for a person named Annie. Apparently there's currently two Annie's staying here, one being a 60 year old woman," he says with a laugh.
I let out a little laugh. "Aren't those records supposed to be confidential?" I ask.
"Maybe," he say guiltily. He smiles and rubs his hand on the back of his neck. Damn it's so hot. No stop it I tell myself.
"Well must be fun having your parents own a hotel like this," I say.
"Yeah it is. My dad always let's me use one of the deluxe suits for parties."
"I'm guessing that's where the party is tonight."
"Yup."
"Fun. Well I guess I'll see you then." I start to close the door.
"Uh wait," he says before it's closed all the way.
"Yeah?" I ask.
"Would you want to hang out for awhile? It's kind of boring around here."
"Sure just let me get my shoes."
"Alright."
"You can come in," I tell him.
"Thanks." He follows me into the room.
I grab my gold sandals and slip them on then go into the bathroom and check my hair and makeup.
"So what are we doing?" I ask.
"I don't really know yet," he admits.
"Alrighty. Well I have no idea where anything is around here so it's up to you."
"Ok then," he laughs a little. I grab my purse and I follow him out into the hallway. "So what brings you to San Diego?" He asks as we walk out to the parking lot.
I consider telling him the truth. "Just wanted a little get away." It's somewhat a lie, but still the truth.
"Well you chose a great place," he says. "Do you like boats?" He asks.
"Depends on what you mean," I say.
"Like going out on boats."
"Oh yeah."
"Good." He opens the passenger door to his car for me.
"Thanks." I climb in and buckle my seatbelt. He gets in and starts the car.
"I think I'll take you out on my boat," he says with a smile.
"Sounds fun," I say smiling back. Even though I really do want to do this there's still a stroke of guilt inside me.
We pull up to a marina and get out.
"Follow me," he says.
I walk next to him down the dock and to a large speed boat. The size of it honestly shocks me.
"This is yours?" I question.
"Yup, bought it about six months ago."
"How old are you?" I question.
"21, why?"
"How did you get enough money to afford this thing?"
"Oh yeah my dad owns about a hundred other hotels along the coast."
"Oh ok, that makes since now," I laugh.
He climbs into the boat and offers me his hand. I take it and climb in. The boats engine roars as he turns the key. He slowly backs it out then further out into the water away from the dock. The boat turns away from the dock and he shifts it into gear. The wind blows against my freshly tanned skin. He doesn't stop until we're about three miles out.
"You want anything to drink?" He asks.
"Uh sure what do you have?"
"Water, Soda, Beer."
"Just water." He pulls a bottle of water out of a cooler and hands it to me.
"Thanks." I close my eyes and lay my head back on the headrest of my seat.
"So how do you like it here so far?" He asks.
"It's nice. Hot that's for sure," I laugh.
"Yeah, this past week it's been extremely hot for some reason. Where are you from?"
"I'm originally from Kentucky, but a few years back I moved to LA."
"So how old are you?" He asks.
"21. You're asking a lot of questions," I laugh
"Sorry. I do that a lot."
"It's fine, I'm just messing with you. Ask away."
He laughs a little. "Alright. Why'd you move to California?"
"Just wanted to get away from my parents. Hated everything about Kentucky."
"Oh."
"Have you lived in California all your life?" I ask.
"Yeah. I was born in San Francisco, but when I was nine I moved here with my parents."
"Cool."
A silence fills the air. I take the cap off my water and take a drink.
"So really what's a beautiful girl like you doing here all alone." I guess my lie didn't work.
"My friend and I got in a fight. I just really needed some space so I came to the first place I saw on a map," I lie again.
"Oh I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked. I'm kind of an overly nosey person," he admits.
"It's fine."
"What about you?" I ask. "How come you're all alone?"
"I don't really know. I've just been having issues finding someone I want to be with. I don't really have anybody I can call friends either."
"Why wouldn't someone want to be friends with you? You seem like a nice guy."
"That's the thing, everyone wants to be my friend. People like to take advantage of me because I'm nice and I have money. I really only have one good friend."
"Oh," is all I can really say.
"Yup."
"People are stupid anyways," I laugh.
"That's for sure," he agrees with a smile.
