Brian and I sit at the back of the boat with our feet in the water. I close my eyes and lay my head back.
"Ok, I have a question," he says.
"And what might that be?"
"I'm having another party tonight, and I wanted to know if you would like to come."
"As tempting as that sounds, I think I'm going to have to pass."
"Why? Come on. Please come."
"Well let's see last time I went to a party I woke up without my clothes on, I attempted to have sex with you, I called you my exes name, and I puked my guys out because I was so drunk."
"Yeah, but you only did all those things because you were drunk. Pleeeeeaaaaassssse, will you come," he begs.
"Fine I will come, but I'm not drinking."
"I never said you had to."
"Good." He gives me a goofy smile. I lay my head back again and close my eyes. I breath in deeply and the salty air all around me fills my lungs.
"I love it here. I don't ever want to leave," I say.
"But your friends are in LA, you'll eventually have to go back."
"Maybe I won't. Maybe I could just tell them that I feel like I belong better here."
"Why do you feel like you belong better here?"
"There's pretty much no one I know so I get a fresh start. It's not a crowded city like LA, but there's still the beaches." I look over at him and smile. "And there's you."
He smiles back. My phone starts to vibrate again. I pull it out of my pocket. "How am I even getting reception out here?" I ask.
"I don't know, mine does that a lot too."
I look to see who it is. Ashley. I'm honestly not in the mood to talk to anyone so I slide my phone back into my pocket and ignore it.
"Aren't you going to answer it?" He asks.
"No. I've kind of started making it a habit to ignore people's phone calls lately."
He laughs. "Alright then. We better get going I have to get stuff ready for the party." He stands and offers his hand to me to help me up. His rough strong hands firmly grip mine.
We climb back over the seat and into the boat.
"You want to try and drive it back?" He asks.
"As fun as that sounds I think I'll have to pass," I laugh.
"Alright." He starts the boat back up and we make our way back to the marina.
When we get back I help him tie the boat to the dock while he locks everything up.
"So where's the party at this time?" I ask as we walk back to our cars.
"On the beach. There's going to be a big bon fire and everything."
"Oh," Is all I really say.
"Just oh?" He questions.
"Last time I was at a beach party a lot went down."
"What do you mean?"
"Kian's step brother tried to start making out with me and he ended up dropping me on the ground because I was trying to get away. I ended up with a concussion, a broken arm, and I was in a coma for about a week."
"Oh my god. What happened to him."
"I sued and he got put in jail."
"Wow look at you, you little badass."
