George Eacker looked at himself in the bathroom mirror and sighed.
Today was Monday, the first day he would see Philip Hamilton since he broke the other's arm.
George wanted to apologize, but he wasn't sure he could. What was he supposed to say? 'Hey sorry for breaking your arm because I was homophobic to you, Philip. I only did it because I'm afraid of my dad.'
Goddammit, why was apologizing so hard?
A small alarm went off on George's watch, which he tapped off absentmindedly before grabbing his backpack and tiptoeing around his drunk father, who was passed out on the couch.
The alarm had been going off for years, ever since George had figured out when he needed to leave before his dad woke up back in 7th grade.
This way, he would only have to deal with his dad at night, and even then he was usually drunk and easy to outrun.
Dangerous parents created careful kids. But also scared-for-their-life kids.
Climbing into his car, George turned on the radio and hoped to avoid think of what he had to say to Philip.
'News365', the town's local news outlet, was on, and of all people, George could hear Alexander Hamilton's voice ranting on once again.
Alexander didn't actually work for the news, he was a lawyer, they just invited him on the show a lot, because as much as he was abonoxious, he was interesting.
"Fucking cunt!," Alex was saying "who does he think he is, fucking breaking my kids arm because he's fucking homophobic?!"
So that's what they were talking about.
A muffled voice in the background reminded Alex that he couldn't swear, and then there was a moment of silence where Alex was probably angrily flipping that poor person off.
George sighed and turned off the radio as he pulled into a school parking lot. He couldn't help but look at the place where he and Philip had fought as he killed the engine.
Almost immediately, a tapping came on his passenger seat window. George looked over to see Theodosia Burr staring angrily at him through the window.
"What do you want, Burr?" George asked, climbing out of his car.
"You better fucking apologize to Philip." Theodosia said, crossing her arms at him from over the car.
"Already planning on it." George said, swinging his backpack up into his shoulder and locking the car.
Theodosia faltered. "What do mean 'already planning on it'?" She demanded.
"I mean I was already going to apologize to Philip for breaking his arm before you decided to confront me." George said, walking towards the school. Theodosia trailed after him.
"So what are you going to say?" Theodosia said, crossing her arms over her chest.
With her small height and flat chest it was easy to assume Theodosia was a middleschooler instead of a highschooler in senior year.
"I don't know, 'sorry for breaking your arm', I guess."
"That's so basic! You need to make it more genuine!" Theodosia criticized.
"Then what do you suggest I say?"
"Something like 'Philip I know we have our differences which cause us to butt heads, but I honestly feel terrible for what I did to your arm. Please accept my apologies'."
"Great, I'll just use that." George said, pushing open the front door.
"No you can't, Philip will know I told you to say that!"
"Why?"
"Because I'm the only one he knows who talks in borderline old english when they apologize."
"Well what do I say-" George was cut off by William Mulligan shouting out Theodosia's name.
"Gotta go, Eacker, Will needs help on something. Just be genuine to Philip."
George shook his head as Theodosia left. She had been no help at all.
And then George saw him, standing off to the left in the entrance hall, letting some cheerleaders sign his cast.
Oh god, what was George supposed to say?
