Philip stood on the upstairs balcony of the old town hall, hiding from his boyfriend.
Philip and George weren't in a fight or anything, it was just that Philip was unsure how George would react to his dress.
"Why does it even matter so much if he likes your dress or not?" Will asked, swirling his punch around in a plastic cup.
"Because I love him." Philip whined "If he doesn't like the dress then maybe he doesn't like me."
"Pretty sure that's not how it works." Will said "Plus, you're gonna know his reaction soon enough, because he's coming up the stairs."
Sure enough, George could be seen walking up the steps that led to the indoor balcony.
"Bye!" Philip squeaked, finding a door and running out onto the outdoor balcony.
Will shouted something at him, but Philip didn't hear it.
A few kids were outside doing weed, or pot, or something, so Philip walked over and sat down at a table on the other side of the balcony since he was afraid of drugs.
He waited quietly for the inevitable moment when George would come out and see him in the dress.
Philip looked down and clutched his skirt as the door slid open.
"Philip!" George exclaimed, obviously having seen the dress.
"Do you like it?" Philip asked nervously, looking up at his boyfriend.
"You look beautiful, as always." George said, trying to hide his red cheeks. Philip blushed.
George had left the door open, and a faint slow song could be heard starting to play from downstairs.
"May I have this dance?" George asked, offering his hand to Philip. Philip took his hand, nodding in response.
George pulled him up off his seat and held him close, putting his arms around Philip's waist. Philip wrapped his arms around George's neck as they rocked side to side.
The kids doing weed cheered them on, a few of them getting up to try and dance together.
"Guess what?" George whispered in Philip's ear.
"What?" Philip asked, smiling faintly.
"This is the best prom I've ever been to." George said "You know why?"
"Why?" Philip asked.
"Because I'm here with you." George answered.
"That was so cheesy!" Philip exclaimed, burying his head into George's chest, blushing all the same.
George laughed, which filled Philip's heart with love.
The song ended, and they slowly broke apart.
The weed kids were going inside, stumbling and giggling, clearly high.
"I love you so much it's ridiculous." George said, cupping Philip's cheek with his hand.
Philip placed his hand over George's. "I love you even more." He said.
"No, I love you the most." George answered.
"Fight me." Philip replied.
"Please, you and Frances would be the shortest people here if it wasn't for David and Theodosia." George said, purposely getting Philip mad.
"I'm not that short! You're just tall!" Philip whined.
"Whatever you say, pipsqueak." George said.
"You're the worst." Philip groaned, burying his face in George's chest again.
George just smiled and held him tighter.
