(I don't know how court/police/really any of this works, so be patient with me.

Trigger Warning for a little talk of the abuse in the last chapter kinda)

The only thing George could focus on was the lights on the ambulance and police car, as well as his hands in his lap.

Theodosia sat next to him on the front steps, rubbing his back. He had called her after his dad lost consciousness when George hit him. He didn't know who to call, and she seemed like the best choice.

Theodosia then called the police and she arrived with her dad, who was now talking to a police officer about the abuse George had gone through, and that his actions had been in self defense.

Someone had patched up the cut on George's head, but he couldn't remember who they were or what they looked like.

Alexander Hamilton had arrived at one point, and was talking with Aaron Burr and the police officer. Philip probably knew that George had hit his father back, then. George wondered what Philip thought about it.

"How are you holding up?" Theodosia finally asked. George shrugged; he didn't know how he was, or what he was feeling.

"My Dad is talking to the police officer, so your dad, um, Jacob, will probably go to jail. You'll have to probably testify against him in court, though." Theo said, still rubbing his back.

George nodded. "Where will I go?" He finally asked in a whisper.

"If you want, you could probably stay with my dad and I. You're 18, so we won't have to go through the long process of adoption." She said.

Tiger the cat came out through the open door of the house and curled up on George's lap, oblivious to what had just happened. Tiger has been in the bathroom where his litter box was kept, so luckily Jacob hadn't found him.

"Am I a bad person?" George asked Theodosia.

"No, not all, George! You're-"

George interrupted her by starting to cry. He couldn't remember that time he had cried openly in font of someone.

Theodosia wrapped her arms around him, holding onto him tightly.

"I'm a mess." George said after he had calmed down a bit.

Theodosia smiled at him in a sad, knowing way. "We're all messes, George," she said "that's what makes us human."

George laughed, though his heart wasn't in it. "I'm perhaps the biggest mess of them all, then." He said.

Theodosia said nothing. She just wrapped her arms around him again.

And there they were- two gay kids who had both experienced loss and heartbreak, sitting on the steps of a broken home.

(Idk how court works, so I probably won't go into detail about it next chapter.)
