"You did such a good job on your valedictorian speech!" The principle congratulated George "You truly captured your four years here!"
George didn't think it was that good, but he nodded and thanked her despite what he thought. The principle smiled at him, and then left to talk to other people.
A few more people approach him. A few teachers jokingly scolding him about not telling them it was G would clogged the toilet, a few parents complimenting his way with words, and a few of his peers commenting on the stories he told.
George thanked them all, but his thoughts were on Philip. He hadn't found his boyfriend yet, and he really wanted Philip's opinion on his speech.
The teacher who was talking to patted his back and left, and George turned to go find Philip, only to be tapped on the shoulder, stopping his search.
George turned and looked at the woman in front of him. He didn't recognize her as anyone's mom, so he decided she must be someone's aunt or family friend. She was shorter than him, and looked to be about as old as his Dad. She smiled at him proudly, even though he didn't know her.
"Your speech was very nice," she said, her hands clasped together in front of her "it almost made me cry."
George smiled. "A few people said it almost made them cry too, but I don't think it was that moving."
"Oh it was very moving, but I'm sure they almost cried for different reasons than mine." The woman said, looking off to the side.
George raised an eyebrow. He didn't want to be nosy, but he was curious on why her reasons were apparently different. "Why are your reasons different?" He asked carefully.
The woman sighed and looked back at him. "It reminded me of all that I missed." She said.
Maybe whoever's aunt she was didn't see her much? George was a bit confused.
"Oh." He said awkwardly "Well I'd better be going, I've got to-"
"You don't remember me?" The woman asked, interrupting him. "Though, I don't see why you would, you were so small when I last saw you. So much time has passed."
George was more than a bit confused.
"Ok, lady," he said "I don't know what you're talking about, but-"
"Oh, George!" The woman cried, her eyes sparkling with tears "Don't you see? I'm your mother!"
