I had Alex and Elliot accompany me downstairs.

Jason looked up as soon as I walked into the kitchen.

He hadn't touched his food at all.

"Why did you run off?"

"Sorry about that. I had something on my mind. Elliot sort of figured it out."

His eyes grimaced.

Was he sad?

"I should've told you sooner. Thalia drained most of my magic so I can barely use any!"

My English teacher crossed his long fingers together.

A grin creased on his lips.

"That's why you were afraid of?"

I nodded.

"You guessed it, didn't you? Back in the library. The book was a ruse to get me to reveal myself."

He scoffed.

"Child, you give me too much credit."

I shot him daggers.

"Don't call me a child! You're only a few years older."

"Well, you certainly behave like one. That isn't to say that adults don't hide their troubles too."

Was he trying to say something?

Jason glanced at Mr. Tanaka.

"Can she stay?"

Mr. Tanaka eyes widened upon seeing the veil in my hands.
