"That's what he told me," Father said, his voice devoid of humor.

I closed my eyes and took in a deep breath.

"For who?"

"I wish I knew as to who it was. I'll interrogate him later."

Who could my brother have possibly been working with?

And why would they give him the power to defeat Mother?

Wouldn't one desire to keep that power to themselves?

"I'll go ask him now. It's best to do so as soon as we can. Brother might not be a dark mage, but his skills to blend with the shadows are as good as any."

A ping of pain coursed through my chest when I said that.

Why would he suddenly turn on his family just for power?
