It had been three years since I last saw home.
Not much seemed to have changed.
Except that people were out enjoying the spring weather.
"Lady Thalia," some of the older folk in town said.
They had lost their magic back during their youth.
As a result, their faces aged beyond the point they should've.
"Hello everyone," I said, bowing. "How are you today?"
"We're doing as good as always. The snow is gradually melting, meaning that spring is near," one of them, an old woman, said.
"That means that soon you'll be able to enjoy your favorite pie! Spring Berry!" an old man said, crackling.
Hearing those words brought me joy.
"That's true. But... I'm not sure if I'll be around when spring comes."
"Are these your friends?" a different old man asked.
"They're acquaintances."
"Are we now?" Ryan asked, putting his hands on his hips.
He gave me an indignant look.
"Yes. I have no need for friends."
"Don't say that!" Isabelle said.
I didn't respond, continuing on my way to the castle.

The others were still far behind when I had arrived.
"Ah, so you've returned," a familiar voice called out.
I turned around and saw a man in a black and blue cloak.
Smeared on his clothes was blood.
