We pulled up outside of the frozen yogurt shop. I applied for a job here last week and now here I am, my first day of work.
"Now I'm going to be picking you up at exactly 9 o'clock," Ricky told me.
"Alright."
"And if there are any issues with any of the employees being mean to you, tell me, okay?"
I nodded.
"Oh and I got you this," Ricky said, holding out a brand new iPhone 5s. "I got this for you last night."
"Ricky!"
"What?!"
"Why the hell did you buy me this?!"
"You needed one!"
"No, I really didn't, Ricky!"
"C'mon, just take it! I even got you a case with Kian's face on it!"
"Why the hell do I need a case with Kian's face?"
"Well it's one of my old cases and I didn't want to just leave it unused."
"Oh, my goodness, Ricky," I replied shaking my head. "Well thank you, but it was still unnecessary."
"Whatever. Well I put my number in your contacts. In case of emergency, dial my number."
"Okay, mom."
"I may act like a mom, but it's only because I care."
I smiled. "I know. But I seriously need to go now."
"Okay, good luck," Ricky said and hugged me.
I hugged him back and got out of the car.
"9 o'clock sharp!" Ricky shouted before driving away.
I smiled to myself. It was so strange having someone actually care about me. I opened the door of the shop, clocked in and took my spot at the register. I hoped being a cashier was as easy as I thought it was going to be. Before I knew it, I was really starting to get the hang of it. A woman approached the counter and was ready to order.
"Good afternoon, ma'am, may I take your order?" I asked politely.
She smiled and began to order. "One medium cup of vanilla yogurt with strawberries, please."
I typed it in the register and the price popped up. "That will be $3.79, please."
The lady smiled handed me a five dollar bill. As I was about to give the woman her change, she stopped me.
"Oh, no, keep the change!"
Wow, the manager wasn't kidding when she said that people here gave tips.
"Wow, really? Thank you! Have a nice day!" I said cheerfully.
"Aww, you too, sweetie."
It was pretty easy at first, but after a few hours I was getting pretty tired. I had a few difficult customers, but overall it went pretty well.
It was 8:55 pm and could not stop looking at the clock. Only five more minutes to go and I'd be free. I handled one more customer and we finally locked the door at about 8:58. My phone started ringing and I answered.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Amy, I'll be there to pick you up in about 10 minutes. I'm so sorry for being late!"
