It was almost magical how fast his mind went from a relaxing mood to one where he was totally panicked and couldn't think nor breathe properly. Immediately after hearing the scream upstairs his movements stopped and his muscles froze. He lost control of his movements as he dashed up the stairs, none of his motions were planned, everything he did went automatically.

He didn't know exactly where they were, but was clever enough to figure out checking their bedroom was the best thing to do. His mind was proved to be functioning rather well when he entered the room and found the two woman inside, who both had an utterly shocked look on their face.

Emma's back was facing him, and he looked right into Jen's eyes, but failed to read them. He couldn't discover anything bad or dangerous surrounding them. So, he obviously immediately wondered what could've been so surprising one of them felt the need to scream.

"Swan?" He asked, clearly attempting to catch his breath, not that he cared. He would live the rest of his life like that if it meant Emma would be unharmed.

She momentarily lost her breath when the concern hidden in his voice reached her ears. She turned around hesitatingly, trying to hide her face with her hair as she refused to meet his eyes. She didn't know why she couldn't face him. All she knew was that her eyes were glued on the floor and she didn't have the strength to draw them away.

Judging by the insecure attitude she radiated, which was rare, he knew it was serious. But couldn't to figure out whether it was good or bad.

"Are you okay?" He spoke so quickly and without emphasizing something it was almost impossible to understand what he had said, but Emma somehow managed to succeed.

"Yeah, I'm fine." She placed her hand on his arm, which he had encircled around her wrist only moments ago, signalling for him to calm down.

His bright eyes pierced into hers as he tried to detect any form or trace that would confirm she was lying, but he couldn't find anything.

Now that he knew she wasn't mentally or physically harmed, he could breathe again as he felt his pounding heart relax, but something still didn't feel right.

"What are you hiding from me?" He asked. It may seem silly, but the way she was slowly moving her hand further away from his behind her back and the way Jen was practically whistling as she nonchalantly looked around their bedroom bugged him.

Emma looked down to the floor, like she always did when someone asked her a question, even if it was just for a split second only.

"Nothing." She claimed, turning her head away from his. He wasn't sure how to define what he was feeling when he figured out she was lying to him. All he knew was that he longed to punch the person who had caused this; until he found out he was that particular person.

"Swan, I love you, but I know that was a lie."

She refused to blink. He brought his hand to her cheek. She watched him every move he made.

When she remained silent longer than his patience could handle, he grabbed her wrist. His grip was tight and strong, and it was unnecessary for her to look at their interaction to know he was leaving white marks on her pale skin.

He had already noticed the worried look in her eyes along with a hint of fear, but he managed to ignore it as he forced himself to continue before anyone could stop him.

He only allowed himself to freeze for a fraction of a second when Jen stepped forward and opened her mouth, just like words were about to escape her lips, but nothing ever came.
