As his forest green eyes scanned the area around him, he found he could only make out things a couple of feet away. At most, 5 feet. The place was… foggy and dark, with close to nothing illuminating it. The fog swirled and licked at the air, moving around the boy there as it flowed, but it never dissipated. His eyes now moved downward and he saw that there was a little pile of ash in front of him. He put his hands out to touch it and realized the ash circled around him.
He flinched back at the sight of his hands, doing a double take. They were this odd purple and blue color and his veins were more prominent than ever. What dark skin he used to have was faded and paler. He stood up, now, and found he was still in the clothes from before but they were burnt and torn in places. He looked at them more, then looked up.
As soon as he did, there was a high pitched, shrill noise that caused him to fall to the ground and cover his ears. The sound kept going, playing like a broken record that nobody bothered to fix. And then, it stopped. The boy shook violently and had his head on his knees, ash falling from his head. He felt it fall and opened his eyes, no longer hearing the scream, and touched his head.
The remnants of what were his antlers fell with each brush of his hands, grey and dusty. His eyes grew wide and he breathed quicker.
"Where am I? What's going on?" he wondered aloud.
There was no answer. The boy tensed up more and looked frantic.
"Am I alone?"
Again, no answer.
He felt the need to cry and yet nothing came out. He was not cold, he was not hot, nor warm. He wasn't in pain, wasn't in pleasure. He was… nothing. He felt nothing.
He looked over to his arm and saw a nasty looking scar, one from when he tried to rip free of the first needle he received. He found some others on the other arm. He then wrapped his skinny arms around his legs, hugging them to his chest, and stared at the ground, transfixed on it.
"Am I dead?"
