Hercules's POV

The next day was really quiet, no one knows what happened between Laurens and Lafayette. Laurens told me what happened, I was angry at Lafayette for actually pushing him but I kept my calm, only giving Lafayette glares every now and then because I couldn't be fighting with him. Not when he was supposed to have my back on the field, though he'd been distracted since last night, zoning out a lot and almost getting shot more than once.
"What's your problem man? Snap out of it!" I finally growled at him when he almost got shot in the head. I was so busy trying to keep Lafayette alive that I couldn't check to see if Laurens was ok, though I didn't hear any arguing coming from his direction. I glanced at them for a split second and I was a little surprised at Laurens's face. He had tears rolling down his freckled cheeks but he had a look of anger and pain on his face as he shot his rifle. I quickly looked back to my own fight but my thoughts wondered about why he was crying.

Lafayette's POV

I tried to focus on what I was doing but I kept thinking about what I could do to make up for what I had done, I wanted Laurens to talk to me again, I wanted his trust back... I missed seeing his gorgeous smile and his perfect blue eyes. Hercules would yell at me to focus. I figured that Laurens had told him what happened so that would explain why he kept giving me death glares.
I heard Washington cry that there was another cannon fire. I quickly looked over at Laurens, he hadn't heard, he was still firing. I ran over to him, pushing men out of my way to reach him, and when I did, I tackled him out of the way because the ball of steel was heading straight for him. I held him close as we landed on the ground and we heard a thud louder than our own, the ball had it the exact spot that Laurens had been standing. I looked at John's face, he was staring at the ball, horror and shock on his face. He was shaking, badly...

Laurens's POV

I couldn't stop shaking, I was horrified... I stared at where the huge ball of steel... 'That could have been me...' I thought to myself. I turned and buried my face into Lafayette's chest, glad that he was there because now I felt safer...

Lafayette's POV

I softly kissed his head and helped him up. I convinced Washington to let Laurens go back to camp and I took his place. I could focus now that I knew Laurens forgave me.
