Lee's POV

I stood in the shadows of the trees, watching John Laurens work away with the food for the soldier's meals. I twirled my dagger in my hand, my eyes narrowed with hatred as I watched him.
"That moron got himself captured, I had nothing to do with it..." I growled under my breath. If John wasn't trying to be such a hot-shot, he wouldn't have gotten captured by the British. I huffed, thinking about how everyone erected a big palaver over him. I didn't understand what made him so special, I was superior to him in every way. I also couldn't decipher why the famous Frenchman took such a liking to him. I also pondered if he knew what John was doing with his little crony- Hercules. I smirked, thinking of how mad Washington would be if he knew- even better- how infuriated Lafayette would be if he found out. I listened to him singing in French, making my grip on my dagger tighten.
'I will find out what this creep is playing at. I need to know what is going on between him, Lafayette, and Hercules.' I deposed to myself. I turned and made my way back to camp, still hidden by the trees.

Lafayette's POV

I had sat under the tree for a good hour in a half, napping. I was awoken by John coming and sitting with me.
"Laf...?" He asked quietly as he poked my arm. I opened my eye and looked at him. After a moment and I realized that it was him, I slowly but hurriedly closed my leather journal. I tucked it into my coat's hidden pocket inside. John was watching me with bewilderment. I smiled at him and brushed his loose curls behind his ear.
"Did you need something, mon amie?" I question with kindness in my voice. He blushed slightly, not expecting my touch.
"Well, I finished my cook duty for the morning and I was wondering if we could do something together... just you and me...?" He looked away as he asked, his innocence captivating my heart and thoughts. I nodded, trying to contain my glee.
He got up and grabbed my arm, helping me to my feet. In the brief moment, I thought of what we could do and a way to get away from camp.
"How about we go for a horse ride?" I asked him. He seemed to like the idea because his face lit up at the suggestion.
With a heart full of desire, I told him to wait at the tree while I ran back to camp.
