Laurens's POV

We walked, finding that Lee was already there. He was waiting with Burr behind him and he had brought the doctor with him. I glanced at Alexander and as a look of surprise and a bit of anger on his face as he stared at Burr. As Alex walked to meet Burr so they could negotiate, I reviewed all 10 of the duel commandments.
Number ONE; Demand Satisfaction.
Number TWO; Get a second.
Number THREE; Have your seconds try to negotiate peace.
Number FOUR; If there's not peace, grab pistols and a doctor, pay him in advance but have him turn around so he has deniability.
Number FIVE; Duel before the sun is high in the sky.
Number SIX; Leave a letter to your next of kin.
Number SEVEN; Confess your sins.
Number EIGHT; Last chance to negotiate. Send in your seconds.
Number NINE; Look him in the eye, aim no higher, summon all the courage you require. Then count.
Number TEN; Ten paces.
"FIRE!" Burr and Hamilton shouted. Before I knew it, I whirled around and fired at Lee. Blood roared in my ears and it mixed with the sound of gun fire. My body braced itself for the impact of a bullet, I had known what that was like because it was all too familiar. I felt no impact but a swift graze on my shoulder. My thoughts cleared and I came to the reality of what was happening. Burr ran to Lee's side and was holding him up. Lee clutched his side and screamed in pain. Alexander came over with a wicked grin, patting me on the back.
"We won!" He mused, putting his arm around my shoulders. I felt a smirk creep onto my face and I said lowly,
"I'm satisfied."
The doctor turned around and rushed over to Lee. Burr looked up and his expression changed to pure terror.
"Here comes the General..." he said. I began to turn to look but I froze when he said,
"And Lafayette."
