Lafayette's POV

I got off the horse with Laurens. I held the horse's reins in one hand and held John's hand in the other. Our fingers were intertwined and his head was leaned against my shoulder.
'This is perfect, it's just as I had imagined it would be like...' I thought to myself, dreamily. I suggested we find a shady place to sit since it was hotter than heck out today and he agreed. I let go of the reins and let the horse graze as we sat under a tree. We sat together and never let go of each other's hands. Though he did let go to take off his vest because he was getting over heated. Has he took it off, I looked up at the sky. It was getting cloudy but it was still humid and anyone could work up a good sweat by just being outside. It has been silent for a couple minutes and I kind of felt awkward.
"Laf... d-do you.... d-do you actually like me? Have I actually stolen the attention of your affection? If I have, it gives me great satisfaction to know I have the ability to captivate you." He asked, using his formal poem-like speech. I chuckled and took a deep breath, deciding to tell him the truth.
"My dearest John Laurens. You captivated my attention ever since I first met you. Never have I seen eyes as beautiful as yours nor have I ever met someone with as much bravery or ambition as you. My affections towards you began to grow throughout our friendship and I have never doubted my feeling towards you. You have made me the happiest man in this world. No one could ever replace you, I couldn't see how anyone could. I would face the entire British army for you, I would walk through every desert for you, I would do anything to make you smile and I'd do anything to keep you safe. I have never loved anyone more than I love you, and I doubt I ever will." I said, confessing all of my feelings to him. He stared in awe, his cheeks flushed and his eyes sparkled. I saw that I had taken him by surprise with my disclosure of my emotions. I lean forward and kissed him on the cheek. I moved away from him and saw tears in his eyes. He smiled and gave me a quick but loving kiss.
"I love you with all my heart, Marquis De Lafayette~" he whispered happily.
