Lafayette
We were back at camp and had run into more British during the patrol earlier. Hercules and I were actually able to help this time but it seemed that Laurens didn't really need our help, captivating me once more when he laughed at the red coats. I must admit, his laugh distracted me and I nearly got shot.
'Why does his laugh have to be so adorable?' I thought to myself with a huff.
"Looks like I'm getting better than you, Lafayette." He teased, making me turn bright red and I sped up my firing. I wanted to match his speed but somehow the smaller male kept moving faster than me. It confused me slightly that I couldn't pick up speed when I had the longer limbs than he did. I walked through the camp, looking for a quiet place to polish my sword which happened to be my pride and joy. I sat down slightly far from the camp but within running or jogging distance. I unsheathed my sword after sitting on a small hill, starting to polish the still already shimmering steel. I wasn't really paying attention as Laurens came running up behind to me.
"L-Lafayette!" He panted. I turned and looked at him, tilting my head. "Mind if I sit with you?" He asked, trying to catch his breath.
"Of course mon amie." I smiled. He sat down beside me, careful not to mess up his uniform. He brushed his bangs out of his face and smiled. I flushed slightly at his smile.
"Sorry I kind of tried to outdo you during the patrol today, Lafayette..." He apologized, rubbing the back of his neck, his smile fading and he looked down. I started to feel bad that he felt he had to apologize for being better than me.
"Please do not feel that you have to say sorry mon amie, and please just call me Laf. We are friends after all." I said rather quickly and tried to reassure him that he didn't need to say sorry.
"Really? I..I'm glad to hear you say that!" He giggled and threw his arms around me into a tight hug. But he flinched away from me as fast as he hugged me. I looked at him, confused as to why he moved away from me so abruptly. His face was red and he covered his mouth. I smiled and couldn't help but laugh.
"What is wrong?" I laughed, putting my sword back and tucking the cloth I was using back in my pocket.
"S-Sorry about that rather embarrassing outburst, I don't know what came over me." He stuttered and I realized he was talking about his giggle and when he hugged me.
"Mon amie, it is fine, you apologize too much Laurens." I said and put an arm around him, patting his head. We sat for a good hour just talking to each other, being friendly and joking around. I was growing to like this side of him, he was more relaxed and rather pleasant to be around. I didn't really see what the other soldiers thought he was clingy or annoy, I honestly believe that they were just exaggerating. But our time relaxing was cut short by the sound of gun fire.
Laurens
I jumped up at the sound of multiple guns going off. I quickly helped Lafayette up and yanked my pistol from its place, running back up the hill to the camp, Lafayette on my heels. I cocked the gun and ran to Hercules's side as he fired at redcoats. Out of the corner of my eye, Washington was giving orders to load the cannon and for the men to stand their ground. I grinned wildly and shot two Brits in the chest within a few seconds of looking back at my targets. Hercules ran for cover as he refilled his rifle and Lafayette took his spot, using his own pistol because we weren't close enough to use swords from where we stood. I looked around at my fellow men and saw that they were dropping like flies. I gritted my teeth and grabbed a sword to put in my utility belt, then quickly mounted a horse. I directed the horse straight into the line of fire. Charging for the ones that hadn't seen me coming, still firing my pistol, wanting to use the sword as a last resort if I run out of ammunition. I felt a bullet whiz past my head and actually caught the ribbon in my hair, my hair falling down though I didn't notice much because the wind whipped it behind me. The horse bucked slightly as a bullet almost caught its back leg. I was running out of ammo quickly and the bullets were getting closer. I shoved my pistol back in its hostler and unsheathed my sword, cutting down men one by one in rapid success. A bullet skinned my side, nearly letting out a cry of pain, but I just gritted my teeth harder because to keep my mind off the pain. Soon the firing stopped, and the remaining British retreated, leaving the dead for fear of even more to leave behind. I turned back to my fellow men, raising my sword in triumph, cheers coming from them as they lowered their guns. The horse trotted back to the camp and I crawled off, holding my side to hide the blood. Lafayette came over to me and clapped me on the back.
Lafayette
"Mon amie, that was brilliant! Using the horse to get closer, you-" I cut myself off as I noticed him holding his side. I practically yanked his hand out of the way and saw the red, wet, sticky blood oozing out of his side.
"Someone get the paramedic over here now!" I growled.
