Laurens's POV

It's been 3 weeks since Hercules, Alex, and Lafayette had saved me. My limp had become unnoticeable and all my wounds seemed to have healed without infections. I assumed that no one had told Washington how Lee did nothing to help me that day because Washington had promoted Lee to be a general. Alexander had become Washington's right hand man, Hercules was the undercover spy, Lafayette was the one who made the maps of the battle field. And me? What have I become? Distant from my lover, and closer to Alexander in friendship. I was still an ordinary soldier but I had gained more respect from all the others. I was also gaining a shorter tolerance for Lee's comments about Washington. Even after he gave him the promotion, he still talks crap about him?! Talk about disrespectful. And I had finally hit my limit that day. I was polishing my gun, waiting to be called out to the battle field when Lee came running back with blood all over his face and uniform. He looked angry, stomping his feet.
"Washington's tactics are stupid and cowardly! Why does he keep insisting that we fall back instead of pushing like they do us! He's not fit to be in command of this camp!" He growled to another soldier. I jerked my head up and looked at Lee. He hit the nail on the head, he struck my last nerve. I set my gun down and slowly stood up.
"Lee. Why don't you take your fucking foot out of your mouth for once and think before you speak. General Washington gave you a promotion to control a battalion and this is how you show your gratitude?" I said with the best level headed tone I could muster up. Alexander had come out of his tent to see what was going on. He came up behind me and stood with me.
"I challenge you to a duel." I sneered finally, crossing my arms. Lee looked slightly surprised but he held his head high.
"You're on."
"Dawn. Sunrise. Don't chicken out." I smirked and turned, yanking my gun off the ground and walking to my tent.
"Laurens, you can't be serious about this duel, you know Washington's going to have a fit if he finds out!" Alexander said as he followed me. I looked a him over my shoulder.
"That's why you're not going to tell him about it." I said, more commanding him than asking him not to.
"And Lafayette isn't to know about this duel either." I said quickly. I hadn't told Alex about me and Lafayette but he understood that we were close, we acted like close friends. I set my gun down and turned to face Alex. I put my hands on his shoulders.
"Alexander, you're my closet friend... Please, I need you to be my second." I said, pulling the most desperately helpless look I had on him. He was silent for a few minutes, I knew he was trying to decide if he should say yes or if he should decline. He sighed and looked at me,
"Alright Laurens. I'll be your second." He finally said. I sighed in relief and hugged him tightly.

Alexander's POV

I was surprised and it took me a few seconds to hug him back. I relaxed and felt myself blush. It felt nice... I didn't want him to let go, happy that he was here...
'Dang it Laurens, what have you done to me?'
