Laurens's POV

Our break from war didn't last very long because two days later, we were back in our uniforms and on the battlefield with Washington. However, this time, Alex and Burr were with us and so was a few new people, one by the name of Charles Lee who gave me really bad vibes. We were stationed in New York near the river, the British attacking us in every which way. Charles and I had become partners on the battlefield, whereas Hercules had been put with Lafayette. I hated this guy though, he always talked rubbish about Washington and his plans, making my blood boil every single time. But luckily Burr and Alex would stay close so they could make me calm down. If they weren't always there, everyone would see me lose my cool, and I may have been mad before but never actually lost my cool.
As I was firing away with my rifle, I heard Washington order for us to move out of the way, and then I heard the sound of enemy cannon fire. I glanced at Charles who had ignored Washington's order. I growled and grabbed him by the arm and pulled him away, running to a safe place and out of the way of the huge steel ball. We tripped and both landed on our faces. I groaned and sat up to see Charles in my face.
"What are you doing?! We needed to keep firing! I'm not a coward like you; I wasn't going to run away!" He growled. I spit out blood and dirt onto the ground, glaring at him.
"You're welcome for saving your life. Washington told us to move, I saved you from being killed. There was cannon fire in case you turned deaf and didn't hear it." I coughed, my blood beginning to boil again. He got up and didn't even bother to help me, he just spit on me and then went back to his position of fire. I got up and wiped my face, taking a deep breath so I didn't shoot this guy in the back of the head. I glanced at Lafayette who was grinning and firing by Hercules's side. The sight of him made me calm down and actually smile, going back to firing my rifle. I shot at the redcoats like there was no tomorrow because if I didn't, there might not be one for the revolution. After a few hours of firing, the General called for a retreat, we were outnumbered and outgunned. We hurried the heck out of there, three of us basically dragging Charles back to camp.
When we got back to camp, we cleaned up our wounded and then gathered around the campfire to eat supper. I sat with Laf, Herc, Burr, and Alex as we ate our food. It was gross but it was food and after using all our energy today we needed to eat what we could. But as we sat, we also had to deal with Charles's more than unpleasant insults about Washington. I was getting sick of it, I'd dealt with months of this and It was growing to be a bore. I sat my dish down and stomped over to him.
"Mon amid? What are you do-" Lafayette began to question but I socked Charles in the jaw before he could even finish his question. There was a large collective gasp as my fist made contact with Charles glass-like jaw, all but Alex who laughed.

Lafayette's POV

I jumped to my feet right after Lauren's hit Lee in the face. I ran over to him and held his arms behind his back, but also holding him sort of in a hug position.
"You better learn to keep your mouth shut Lee or you'll get worse than just a punch in the jaw!" He growled, trying to fight his way out of my arms. I wouldn't let go no matter what, I didn't want anymore trouble for John. Burr went over to Lee and helped him up off the ground, then helped him to the medic tent. I dragged Laurens to our tent and let go of him when I got him inside.
"What were you thinking Laurens? Do you want the General on your tail for starting fights that aren't needed?" I shouted at him. His face changed from anger tears Lee to shock and hurt as he looked me in the eye. He flinched back slightly, I didn't want to be standing here yelling at him and hurting his feelings but I couldn't contain how upset I was.
"That was stupid and irrational! Washington could send you home for something like that! Are you trying to get yourself sent home?! Do you care about fighting this war or just your own little petty fights!" I growled in his face and pushed him back slightly. He stumbled backwards and fell down, tipping the cot over and knocking a small stand over on top of him, which also brought a jar of ink and paper down with the stand. He looked up at me and had a look of pure hurt on his face. Tears welled in his eyes and he started to choke out sobs, and he had ink splattered all over his face and all over his uniform. My yes went wide as I realized what I had just done, I tried to help him up but he coward away in fear. I heard Hercules come into the tent.
"Lafayette? What's going on here?" He asked, he glanced over my shoulder at Laurens and he looked worried/angry.
"What happened! Lafayette, what did you do?!" He growled and rushed over to Laurens, pulling him into a hug, using his coat to try and clean the ink off his face. Laurens just sobbed and stared at me, looking broken hearted and I had a horrible realization.

Laurens's POV

I sat there sobbing and couldn't understand why Lafayette was so upset, I thought he'd be proud that I put my foot down and stood up for our General. But never did I think he'd push me... It truly hurt me inside... I wanted Lafayette to comfort me but not until he was calmed down... He broke my heart a little that day...
