Laurens's POV

A few days had passed after my 'date' Lafayette. It had actually been almost a week since it. I limped slightly through camp, carrying a pot for supper. I went to the cook tent, setting the pot down by the fire. I hummed, adding more kindling to the sparking flames. I turned to walk over to the pot and bumped right into someone.
"Ooof!" I fell backwards and landed on my bottom. I looked up to see who I bumped into and my chest tightened. It was Charles.
"Watch what you're doing next time, runt." He growled at me. I got up, wincing slightly as I did so.
"I get to help you with cook duty." He grinned, crossing his arms. I swallowed hard, knowing my luck of having a good day just plummeted down hill.
"Fine. But you get in my way and I'll break more than your glass jaw." I snapped and went over to the pot.

Lee's POV

I gritted my teeth and held my tongue, trying not to retort. I wasn't going to say anything but I wasn't going to let him mock me like that. As he tried to get past me, i moved my foot and tripped him. He fell on the ground and I grinned in satisfaction. I acted if nothing happened and went about my business, taking the pot he was trying to get to then hanging it over the fire. I went inside the tent to see what food we had left and I grabbed some of the vegetables we had left(idk how any of this actually works, im just assuming they brought food with them because come on now, they have to eat). As I was collecting the vegetables, I heard Laurens outside the tent as he swore and kicked at the dirt. I can back out of the tent with a smug look on my face.
'Do something to threaten me, I dare you. I'll reveal you're dirty little secret to the whole camp.' I said in the back of my mind. I felt his glare from across the clearing.

Narrator POV

The sun began to set, the darkness creeping up and stealing away the sky from the daylight. Laurens stood on one side of the fire, staring hateful eyes at Lee. Lee didn't notice the looks that he was getting. But as the sun disappeared below the horizon and the world became pitch black, all that illuminated the area was the orange flames dancing on the kindling. Lee stood up and turned, looking at Laurens. He smiled smugly and evilly. He looked like the devil himself as the flames lit up only certain parts of his face and the sparks fluttered around him. Laurens began to feel fear but he kept his expression the same, changing it only a little to show his determination to rise up.
'You will not make a fool of me.' Laurens said in his mind but Lee might as well have read his mind because his smile became even more erratical and twisted.
