Lee's POV

The bullet was headed right for my skull. Time seemed to have slowed down and I stood frozen, watching as the bullet came towards me. My bullet had already found it's home in the redcoats neck but it would matter once the bullet hit me. I closed my eyes and slowly lowered my rifle. As I stood waiting for death to collect my soul, I felt something slam against my side. The object had enough force behind it to knock me flat on the ground. Time seemed to return to normal speed and the bullet that was coming towards me just grazed my uniform but not my skin. I looked to see what had knocked me down at I was surprised to see that it was John. He was over top of me as I laid on my side and he was panting. Then I realized when the redcoat was aiming for him, he was about 10 feet ahead of me and he had raced back to get me out of the way. He had dropped his rifle on the ground and seemed to be out of breath, his heart beating so loudly that I could heart it.
'John Laurens, the man who tried to kill you in a duel, just saved your life. Twice.' I thought to myself. I looked at him and his cheeks were flushed as he tried to catch his breath. I felt my own cheeks become flushed from mixed emotions about him. I felt grateful that he actually cared but my anger for what he did to me went away, it was replaced with another feeling that I couldn't actually name.
"Are you ok?" He asked.
"Y-Yeah..." I answered, seeming out of it. He got up and helped me up as well.
"Glad to hear it, General Lee." He said with a small grin and then turned, running back to his weapon. I watched with astonishment as he continued back at firing his gun like nothing happened. Whereas I returned back to firing, but all I could think of was John...
