Lafayette's POV

It was night time when I got back to camp but everyone was still awake and in the clearing, arguing with one another. Panting, I ran into the clearing. Hercules rushed up to me and put his hands on my shoulders.
"Did you find him?! Is Laurens ok?!" He panicked. "I need Washington NOW!" I said, trying to catch my breath. Washington came up to me, looking angry but worried.
"Where is he." He said in a level tone.
"The British camp, I found it, he's there, I know he is but I don't know where in the camp." I said. "Washington we have to go get him. I need a few men-" I began but Washington cut me off.
"I don't think it's a good idea to let you go." He said, still chillingly calm.
"I'm going whether you allow me or not. I will go and I will help rescue my friend." I growled, having a look in my eyes that made Washington back off and give me my way. I picked Hercules and Alex to come with me. Before we left camp, I caught glimpse of Lee standing off in the shadows. I went over to him then growled lowly and menacingly to him,
"I'll make sure you pay for not doing anything to help John." Then I turned and left with my men. Nothing would stop me. I was going to get John back safely. Even if it cost me my own life.
We moved as fast as we could, I was leading them straight to the camp but we couldn't move too fast because Alex was still bleeding from being grazed by a bullet earlier. After a few stops we got to the line of trees that were charred, some still skeletons standing tall while others were nothing more than ash. But the worst part of all was that it was hard for me to relocate the trail to the redcoat's camp.
"Come on Lafayette... We're never going to find him unless we stop and rest..." Hercules said as he put a hand on my shoulder. I stood before the ashes and was desperately trying to find the trail. I looked at Hercules, feeling helpless and heart broken.
"But what if we can't find that trail again? What if they hurt him?" I voiced my worries about everything that was racing through my head.
"We'll find him and if they hurt him, we'll make them pay. But we'll never get him back if we are too exhausted to fight. He'd want us to rest, you know he wouldn't want us to push ourselves too hard. I sighed because I knew he was right, though it was hard for me to turn away and forget about out mission for the meantime. I went and sat with him. Alex glanced between us, not sure what to say. We sat in silence for a long time before I fell asleep against a tree. As I slept, I had a nightmare about what I kept thinking would happen to my Laurens... my sweet John Laurens....
